Hi All

A new member looking for a bit of guidance please if anyone can help much appreciated. I have owned my 2016 1.4 auto Renegade for over 3 years and love it (well up to a couple weeks ago I did 😁) Out of the blue driving along, check air bag light comes on, then fuel auto shut off unavailable came on further down the road. Still drove perfectly, We thought it was a bit random but as we were going away soon didn’t look into it at the time. However, couple days later upon starting I had multiple warning beeps and lights, but it still drove fine. After searching the forum noticed battery/earth issues were quite common so decided to get a new one on our return.
started vehicle upon our return to go and get a new battery and found a vehicle possessed, practically every warning light available flashed, a continuous beep that doesn’t go off, theauto box lit up like a Xmas tree and the electronic handbrake had a mind of its own, when we did manage to select a gear it went into limp mode and hardly moved across the drive. We removed battery, which appeared to be the original and got a new decent one in the hope it would be a magic cure, and when fitting it cleaned up the earth strap just to make sure, all fitted and no difference whatsoever.
we have booked it in to local Jeep dealer next Friday (if we can manage to limp it down there) but wondered if anyone on here had a similar experience and suggestions that we can tell them to look out for in the hope we do not have to pay hours and hours of investigation at dealer prices and get no where. We assume all thosewarnings will be listed as errors so no doubt cost us a few hours for them to scroll through that lot.
thanks in advance for any help.

Just had update from garage. In case anyone else gets the same issues. Been told the fault is showing as air bag issue which caused the multiple lights. Charged £139 for this check. First step is a further £350 on top to check if there is a break in wire or bad connection (fingers crossed it’s that) because if it’s not that then they will fit a new air bag module meaning a total bill of £1004. Just gone right off my car!

sounds like they going to scam some money out of you
That’s my worry too. But I am going to say if they ring me saying it’s not a broken wire and needs the module that I presume they have checked all the way to the module which should mean I don’t pay the labour bit of stripping car down again. By rights it should be cost of part and a little bit of labour to unclip old one and clip new one back in so the £500 plus maybe an hour plus the part

Update to our issue just been to garage and been shown our Jeep. it’s been completely stripped out including dash etc. turns out the heater matrix had been leaking over the air bag module and wiring causing damage to two main wiring harnesses, the joints in wiring to air bag system and the air bag module itself. Going to cost thousands to repair, parts mainly, some of which they cannot get hold of at the moment despite being main dealer. mechanic said he’s never seen this before and a car with only 42000 miles shouldn’t have this happen. Advised us to contact Jeep, but won’t hold my breath as doubt they will help, hope no one else gets problems like these on their Renegades. So sitting here Jeepless for the foreseeable future 😒

@Helen Did Jeep UK offer any kind of commercial gesture for this?
Hi Nev
they told us as we were 2nd owner and, even if we had been first as it is 2months over the 6 years old, they wouldn’t offer anything. they cant even help with sourcing the parts, so my Jeep is stuck at the garage until they turn up, whenever that might be!

Try a letter to a UK car magazine, telling the story? I know a couple of guys who got some action from that avenue in the past.
