I purchased my 2015 Renegade Latitude 2 weeks ago. I drove it to Florida for vacation this past Monday and had major issues on the drive. The engine stalled several times while in idle and it seemed to always be after I fueled up. At one point, the transmission made a huge clunking noise, stalled and I couldn't get it into gear. Lots of the warning lights started flashing and then the service engine light stayed on. It's like the car just freaked out and didn't know what was wrong with itself. Once I got to Florida I immediately took it to a local Jeep dealer. After checking the codes from the diagnostic analysis with Chrysler, Chrysler has come back to say I need a new transmission. I'm in shock. I've never dealt with this with a brand new car before. I Googled "problem with 2015 Jeep Renegade" and found this forum. As of now, the only transmission they can find (since the car is so new) is in Detroit and it won't get here until next week. I have no way to get home right now and have started a "case" with Chrysler to see what they will do or won't do to help me get myself and the car back home after my vacation. Evidently Chrysler will get you a rental car but won't let you take it out of state. I was told by the lady on the phone that Chrysler didn't have to do anything and whatever decision they make to help me and the car get home will be in "good will". Wow. Very disappointed in this whole mess. I absolutely loved this car until now.

Oh my D:

I didn't realize the transmission issues could escalate so quickly! So sorry about what you're going through. :( Chrysler should at the very least get you home! It shouldn't be in "good will," that's just ridiculous if you ask me. As much as I love my Renegade, I too have experienced minor issues that SHOULD NOT be associated with a new car purchase. @annabri78 the unfortunate thing is that a lot of us on this forum that have purchased Renegades have been aware of issues and we chose to be early adopters anyway. It doesn't seem like that's what you intended to sign up for and unfortunately it looks like you purchased a defective model. Try messaging Jack from @JeepCares in this forum, he's been really good at responding and offering help from Jeep. Hopefully they can get this all sorted out for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Wow! Sorry to hear your story. This is absolutely criminal in IMO. I have wanted a Jeep Renegade until I found this forum. I will not go anywhere near one now. I have decided on a Mazda CX-5. Chrysler should do everything to keep your car buying experience as pleasurable as possible. This company is going to run themselves in the ground between all the lawsuits fines and poor customer service. The have a stigma as an unreliable car manufacturer and experiences like this just keeps that stigma alive and well. Keep us updated on how your situation. Good Luck

Tell the case worker fca is the he one in need of good will. For you there's lawyers and the local news station interested in why fca makes dangerously unreliable vehicles that ruin your vacation, and then fca have to be jerks about fixing their mistake.

It should play real nice with Sergio's quotes about the vehicle not even being able to be sold.

Yep, agreed. I have had nothing but resistance trying to get even simple things fixed. I can understand new quirks, but I cannot understand the overall lack of attention to quality and poor customer service.

You're right @jgarcia8735. I was ready for a new car, always wanted a Jeep and came across this model called a Renegade. It was so cute and I fell in love. I didn't research this car at all before I bought it as I would have never imagined getting a new car off a lot that would have any problems once I drove away. Still waiting on a call from the "case" worker today to see what Chrysler will do or won't do for me.

@annabri78, we were looking at a RAV4 and CX-5. We drove both, but on a whim tried the Renegade. The handling and interior design won us over. We did do research. We still went for it though. I think I'm one of the lucky few. I've had wind noise issues from day 1 which were sorted out in exactly 26 days of being in a rental. Today, it's back in for rattling of the door they disassembled to fix it.

If you are out of a car for an extended period of time, I suggest you lawyer up. These aren't things that should be taken lightly and you'll most likely be represented for free. FCA case manager said they'd look into giving me "extended warranty". After the 26 days were up and they fixed it, they reneged and did nothing for me. That is what led me to seek legal advice.

You shouldn't be having transmission issues, and the dealer should pick up the tab for your monthly payment during the time it takes to do repairs. Do not settle for less.

Man, these stories are starting to freak me out. It sucks that they reneged on giving you the extended warranty codev. It would have been the least they could have done.

I've read on more than one occasion that the reason Jeep reliability is at the low end is because folks tend to push their Jeeps to their limit and beyond, but these stories so far seem to be regular folks just driving it normally and stuff like this occurring. It's unacceptable.

I really do hope that representatives of FCA are reading these forums and sending back to the higher ups the feedback of these issues. They are shooting themselves in the foot if they don't get these problems fixed.

Me too man. I'm quite conservative out of my daily drivers, so I hope this thing last a little while. At least until I'm not upside down I suppose. :)

Chrysler should step up. It would be unacceptable for them not to fix all the problems some folks are having. Thankfully the issues I've experienced have been minor and things I can live with, as I do love my Renegade. Sadly if I continue to see things like this pop up I don't think I will return to Jeep or FCA on a future vehicle purchase. :/

If this model wasn't ready then FCA shouldn't have pushed it. I hadn't heard of any issues during the EU rollout and am surprised at how many things (little or otherwise) are being listed on this forum.

Hopefully holding those models and inspecting them again before sending them to dealers will alleviate any further problems. I hope that anyone that's experienced a hiccup thus far is in a minority and that there are plenty of happy Renegade owners out there that are not on this forum.

Lets temper things a bit here. If any of you remember when the KL launched they had similar growing pains, but you know what FCA fixed them and people are back to buying them with big grins on their faces.

If you want one and the transmission issues are worrying you, why not wait it out. See what FCA does, then after we have more information available you can decide that the REnegade is the absolute worst car you've ever thought about owning...

Remember the word from Italy was to have this sorted out by mid-June.

In case anyone that has commented is following my story, I still have not heard one word from Chrysler. I was told on Tuesday that a case manager had 24 hours to call me back. It's now Thursday. I'm still in Florida and still have a brand new car that won't get me home. I also sent a message to @JeepCares but I have not heard anything back either. Getting ready to call Chrysler now and see why they aren't calling me back and offering to help me.

Question(s). (These may be brought up by Fiat/Chrysler).
-You state that you drove your 2 week old Renegade to Florida for vacation. But where were you coming from? In other words where is home?
(Since Chrysler will pay for a rental in the state, depending how far home is, you may be able to rent a vehicle in each state.)

In the two weeks that you had the vehicle, (before the trip) did the Rene exhibit any stalls, clucking noises, etc.

-In the early days of ownership, specifically in the Break In period, did you follow Jeeps advice?
Examples found here and here.

-Did you finally contact an attorney?
(This may get Fiat/Chrylsers attention and be more receptive to the situation at hand)

I do admit your situation indeed unique, and if I were in your shoes I would be freaking out since vacation can only last so long and one has to be back home for family and work. I would be contacting them every hour on the hour and through all sorts of mediums (twitter, facebook, Local News, etc).

So while Sergio is noticing FCA profits are sinking, this in turn casues FCA Customer Service to react to all your Renegade problems as follows: "I know how you fell, but I'm not allowed to give-a-care as Sergio wants more profit."

I would expect for you not only to be comped for the rental car while on vacation but also transportation home; also maybe transporting the car home or a refund.
I imagine there will be some low mileage used Renegades on the dealer's lots.
I sure hope the rest of your vacation is fun.

This exactly. FCA support is terrible, as if I needed emotionally support. It was ridiculous to just have to call them several times a week to follow up with them, so they could follow up with my dealer...

Good news! After I called Chrysler again, I did finally hear back from a case manager from the Headquarters in Michigan. He was very friendly and seemed to be on my side from the get-go. The car will get fixed here in Florida and they will ship it up to me once it gets fixed. He said he would take care of all of those details and I didn't have to worry about doing anything else from that side of things. I do have to go rent a car and pay for it, initially, but he did say Chrysler will reimburse me for a rental vehicle. He even said "get as big of a car as you need and we'll pay for it." So, I can now breathe a sigh of relief that I can get home and get back to work on time. And the Renegade will make it's way back to me on Chrysler's dime. Now it's time to enjoy my last day in Florida without worrying how I was going to get myself and the Renegade home! Thanks for all of the support here and a gold star to Jay at Chrysler for saving the day!
