I posted in the introductions that my next vehicle will be, hopefully, a Jeep Renegade.
Here in the UK, we have the motability scheme. My current car is a Renault Scenic 1.5 dCi Dynamique Tom Tom. In exchange for my high rate entitlement of mobility component, I can get a new car every three years. All I have to do is put fuel in. All servicing, tyres, insurance are included.
Some cars have a deposit to pay. Some have a nil deposit, while others can have a couple of hundred pounds (sterling) and others can have a £2,000 deposit. When I got the Scenic in March 2013 I had a deposit of £300. The deposits are fixed per quarter. 1st Jan - 31st Mar, 1st Apr - 30th Jun, 1st July -30th Sep and 1st Oct - 31st Dec.
The Renegade that we are interested in is the Longitude model 1.6 etorq. Deposit is £395. Same engine in the Sport is £495 and you get less kit on the sport. The 1.4 Longitude is £595 deposit. Limited 1.6 is £1,295 deposit. These are 2wd manual models. I do not need 4x4.
We saw an advert on tv and liked the look, so I went online and visited the Jeep UK website and ordered a brochure. When it arrived we went to Lookers, Cardiff as that is our nearest Jeep dealer to have a poke around one. I need something that I can get in and out of easily, which is why I need something that bit higher than a standard saloon (sedan, to our colonial cousins). We are nearer to Swansea than Cardiff, but the isn't a Jeep dealership in Swansea. We liked what we saw, although I will have a test drive at the end of the year.
I am a Renault fan and have been since I worked for them back in the 1980s. That is why I have a Scenic. I actually wanted A Megane Sport Tourer, but it is too low for me. I have osteoarthritis in most of my joints, with my hips and spine being the worst. Also I have prolapsed discs in my spine. This why I am limited to what vehicle I have. What I want and what I need are two different things.
I did have a look at the Renault Captur, but that is a bit too small for us. Also I had a look at the Skoda Yeti, but you get more standard kit with the Renegade than you do with the Yeti. If I want the same kit on the Yeti, I have to pay extra for it, so it was a no brainer between the Yeti and Renegade.
The only niggle I have is reliability of The Fiat lump. Fiat haven't got the best reliability record in the UK. When I order mine at the end of the year, any issues should have been ironed out.
I have got six months to wait before I can order my Renegade.
