Really quite impressive video from Slovakia of PHEV Renegade and Compass doing some light snow ploughing up to the top of a mountain pass. They both look stock. Non-TH.

Cool video. Thanks. A few initial observations:

1) I speak fluent Polish, with both my parents having immigrated here after WWII. I've always noticed that I understand about 90% of what Slovak speakers say, which was the case here. (As opposed to only about 50% of Czech.)

2) This is the first time I've seen anything about how the 4XE works. Very interesting. A 1.3T engine, just for the front axle; and the electric drive, just for the rear axle? And they're somehow coordinated for 4WD?

3) Did they say the gasoline/petrol capacity is only 35 liters? That's tiny -- just over 9 U.S. gallons. And I thought my 2021 Trailhawk's capacity of 12.8 gallons / 48 liters was meager.

4) Of course, the electric drive system gives a lot of flexibility. But they did have some challenges way out in the wilderness, making sure they'd make it back safely...

5) But all-in-all, pretty dam' good performance in deep mountainous snow -- even for non-Trailhawks.

Yes the tank has been reduced from 55 to 36.5 litres.

The 48V battery pack sits on the righthand side of the boot and has eaten into tank space.
A PHEV owner mentions this in another thread.
It could be a deal breaker in the NA, but you guys get the petrol 4WD version. We no longer have those here as an option.

Not sure if they could have done it another way and kept room for a full size spare.

This is the only video so far I've found that shows the PHEVs in snow.

There are a couple of Spanish ones showing light off-road capabilities compared to other C/B segment SUVs I'll try and post one later.

This guy did some extensive consumption testing of the Compass PHEV in petrol-only mode and got a figure of 6l/100km. So a worst case FWD range of 600km/375miles. I could live with that, hence why I went for it:

Here's the "off road" comparison with a BeemerX1 and a Suzuki Across:

I do strongly prefer the hybrid system to a purely EV one.

But I still don't think EV technology is developed enough for me to consider one. Ten years, and the non-replaceable wears out and battery dies...

Is that 6 (US) litres to 100km? ie 60 Litres = 600km.

I work in gallons and that all means nothing to be fair and honest without a comparison. ie I average 52 miles per gallon (UK gallon).

Litres are litres. Even though it's liters in US.

Just type 6 into a litres-to-mpg(imperial) converter website.

Non-replaceable what wears out? Battery? The batteries are replaceable unless stellantis was deeply stupid and decided to glue things in.

Also I hate the name stellantis, it sounds like the name of some lifestyle pharmaceutical.

Yeah, sorry, I meant the batteries.

Don't know how it is on the 4xe, but I've been reading (so it must be true! ;) ) that the batteries on fully-electric vehicles tend to be integrated into the chassis and non-replaceable.

Or, of replaceable, not cost-effective in a 10-year-old car.

We tend to keep our vehicles at least 15 years...
