On my 1.6d the throttle pedal seems to have an odd feel to it, almost like you can push it 3/4 of the way and then it takes a bit more pressure to push the last 1/4? Any one elses like this?
My 1.4MA manual is the same, think it's a way of saving fuel. If you need full throttle for overtaking etc you need to push past the resistance to get maximum power.
I've got a 2ltr diesel in the Trailhawk and I have found the same thing...I keep thinking my foot is getting stuck on the footwell carpet or something, and wiggle it about a bit to be able to push the throttle down fully, but it could be a built in resistance thing. Next drive I'll not wiggle my foot and just push down harder.
Get to 35 mph in second gear and then push the pedal to the metal. You'll be surprised how quick it gets to 6000 rpm then hit third gear and keep pedal to the metal. For a Tonka toy shaped vehicle it goes better than I expected it to with the 1.4 turbo and manual box.
