Hi , Thank you very much , I have an apt 6/4/21 - they will replace the coolant fan and run a oil consumption test . I was told they will plug up some valves , top it off with oil and have me drive it for 1500 miles ( how ever long that takes ) and then bring it back and have it checked to see if it’s burning oil . If so .. he said they will replace the engine . I will certainly keep you posted on this issue .

I have a 2015 TH and just received the notice in the mail. My engine does not use a measurable drop of oil. I'm not letting the dealer near it.
Then you better never go to the dealer for any service. I just got my oil changed last week and I HAD to have the test done. The only way I could "bypass" it was to sign a release and they wouldn't change my oil. I was told for liability reasons they couldn't service my vehicle and release it with a known recall. He did bring up a valid point, "If it fails, you get a new engine for free !!".

Same thing happened with the fuel pump recall. I went in for an oil change and said I didn't have time for the fuel pump module change. They did it anyways.

With today's over-litigious society, I fully understand their thinking. If someone rolls their eyes, "I felt insulted, I'm suing for 15 million dollars !!". He has tardive dyskinesia, he can't help it. "I'm still suing !! I feel anxious walking up to a counter in the store fearing they will roll their eyes !! I can't shop anymore !! HE caused my pain !!".

Stupid made up example ? Certainly. Has it ever happened ? Yeah, probably.

I got my recall notice around a week ago. Still contemplating about bringing it in or not. I’ve managed to mend the oil crisis to where it consumes a lot less than it did before. Last time I added some was early April, and I should’ve had to add some a couple times by now. I’m going to just keep doing what I’m doing unless I hear some miracle stories start to appear about how the reprogram actually solved the issue.

They did the software update on mine for the recall. It takes less than an hour to complete. They did not force me, or even ask me, to do an oil consumption test. The fan recall took about half a day to complete once they got the part in.

I received the same notice, and it was sent as a ‘safety recall’. When I called the dealership, they could not adequately explain the recall. I made an appointment and took the car in. They told me that the recall involved oil consumption and that I needed an oil change before they could check it. I explained that the car had been in storage for six months and only had a couple thousand miles on it since the last synthetic change. They said if I did not get the oil change today, I would have to reschedule for another date and get one done. So I got it done, and was told to come back in 1500-1700 miles to check the diptick. This is kind of sleazy, because:

1) Oil consumption is not a safety issue. I think Jeep was using this to get us in the door for an oil change.
2) If it’s a safety recall, why doesn’t Jeep do the o8l change at no cost?
3) Why can’t the simply top off my oil and check it in 1500-1700 miles?

I have a 2016 Lattitude. Took it in for the recall. First, they had to keep it overnight for an unexplained reason. Got the Jeep back the next day and they said drive it for 1500-1700 miles and bring it back. Do not get your oil changed in the meantime. I noticed that they put some kind of sticky substance on the dipstick. We drove the number of miles and brought it back to the dealership. Again they needed the car over night. The next day we called and they said yes our engine was consuming too much oil and we needed a new engine. Would take 1-2 days for the engine to come in then about a week to install the new engine. A week later we got our Jeep back.

I also had 2016 Limited. I knew there was an oil consumption issue as every oil change my mechanic said I was super low on oil (trust him, 16 years I have been going to him). I work from home now and barely drive. I took the Limited in and explained the situation. They said sounds like a new engine is needed but they still had to run the tests. I explained that now to drive 1500 miles would be over a year as I only drive a hundred or so miles a month! They said ok see you in a year and still told me about NOT changing my oil until I drove the miles. They did tell me I had a cracked engine mount too. Well after that I just took the Jeep to a different dealer and traded it in for a new Jeep (80th Annv edition).

Oddly enough oil consumption can be a safety issue for folks who grew accustomed to not having to check oil every 1k or so. If the engine gets too low on oil it can shut down suddenly and if it does so in heavy freeway traffic it can be a safety issue.

Hi yes I had to schedule appt with the dealer so that they can check it out and then when I picked up my jeep I I was told to comeback after I had driven 1500 miles so they can check if the oil is being consumed properly something like that. You must go to dealer and you must reschedule appt to recheck the oil once you've reached 1500 miles it's ok if you've gone over 1500 but I was advised not to bring it under 1500. That's all

1) Already answered.
2) Because if it passes the test you would get a free oil change. Just take it back when an oil change is needed.
3) Because they need to know that the proper oil and filter is being used and that the exact correct amount is in it. It would be hard to run a proper test if they have no idea what brand, weight and type of oil is being used.

Hi MartyMousse,
This is a CSN and not a recall. A Customer Satisfaction Notification (CSN) is preventive in nature and involves warranty or customer satisfaction issues that are non-safety related. Stellantis will correct the problem, at no charge, even if the vehicle is out of warranty and you are not the original owner.
The CSN does include an oil change and you can choose to have the CSN done whenever it is convenient for you.

The dealership told me that I had to bring it back after 1500 miles and they will top the oil off again and then I have to drive it for another 1500 miles. So did any one have to do that twice?

NO! They should not be doing that. Print off and show them the actual program notice (linked below) and the proper procedure on how to do it. The notice is directly from the NHTSA web site.

Hi Paypay1988,
Feel free to send us a PM! We'd be happy to provide additional assistance alongside your dealer to get this repair performed.
