I went to change the spark plugs on my daughters renegade. Cylinders 2 and 3 had oil in the spark plug well. Maybe only an ounce or two. Cleaned out the wells, replaced the plugs and tube seals as well as the valve cover and oil separator o-ring. 2000 miles later (today), I checked the spark plug wells and found more oil in 2 and 3 spark plug wells. Has anyone come across this issue before? My thoughts are a bad PCV valve or the tube leaking at the cylinder head side, where it threads in.

I made a tool to remove the tube but since I have never done this before, I'm kind of hesitant to start there. I may just try the PCV valve first and see what happens.

Valve cover tube seals usually causes this but looks like you pulled the valve cover and swapped them already? I would check PCV/ AOS(Air Oil Seperator) for clogs as well as this can cause symptoms due to pressure buildup.

Oil separator was clear. Next time that I see the Renegade I will replace the PCV. Has anyone ever seen the tubes loose or cracked?

Today I replaced the pcv. I did pull the coils off again to look in the tubes. Only one had oil in it. I cleaned out the tube and aired it out again. I will check again at the next oil change.

I have the Renegade again. I still have an oil leak in number 2 and 3 spark plug wells. I replaced all tube seals on the valve cover, it came back wet with oil. I replaced the PCV, it came back with oil in 2 and 3 spark plug wells. Today I will see if I can remove the 2 leaking spark plug tubes and reseal them. I will replace the tube seals in the valve cover again as well. Has any one else resealed a spark plug tube?

I removed the two tubes that always had oil in them. They were not loose but I removed them anyhow. The threads in the head were clean, no lock tight or sealant left behind. I cleaned the tube threads and used oil rated RTV. I did not coat the entire threaded portion so that I can remove it one day if needed. I'll let it dry for 24hrs and see if the leak stops. New tubes are $16 each and it looks like sealant/locktight is preamplifier. Maybe I should have got new tubes.

Thanks for following up. Please continue as I’ll keep reading. I’ve not had this issue, or many others, yet But I do like knowing what to look for! Thanks.

Do you happen to know the torque spec on the head cover bolts? Thanks in advance

It is very easy. The hardest nut was the one for the front bracket. It was slotted but it had to be loosened in order to lift the valve cover from the drivers side. The other nuts are easy if you remove the battery. The turbo bracket and heatshield came off pretty easy as well. Don't forget the bolt for the timing cover, it is hidden.

I have a small cracked spark plug tube in #4. Luckily I work at a car repair shop. At first i took it to the dealer because it was still under the powertrain warranty, They said they replaced the valve cover gasket and all 4 spark plug seals. one year later I go to have my spark plugs changed and there was oil in them again. I took it back to the dealer and was they gave me a $1100 quote for the same things they had done the year but this time they were adding a Cylinder Cover. I was told they do not warrantied work that they had done a year ago and that's why my quote was $1100.
I had my mechanics at my job look at it the next day, They said that i had a cracked spark plug tube and that warrantied work the dealership said they did, was never done. All I need is to replace the #4 spark plug tube and the seal. There is a special tool you will need to change the spark plug tube. I don't need all the other parts that the dealer said I did. To say the least I was very disappointed in the petaluma Autoworld dealership for telling me that they fixed it under the warranty but really never did anything but maybe clean the tube out. and for trying to rip me off for work my jeep doesn't need.
Be careful going to dealership..

Sorry to hear your dealer story. I don't even go to the dealer for anything. I feel they broke your tube trying to take a shortcut in getting the valve cover off. There are a few brackets that need to be loosened and moved out of the way to lift the valve cover off of the tubes. Yes there is a special tool that costs about $75. I made one from a large hex bolt, just grind a little off the tips. The mopar tube is $16. You can hypothetically replace the tube without taking the valve cover off, but I think it is better to remove it, just to verify the threads are clean before installing the tube. It's a 1.5 to 2 hour job. Sorry for not taking pictures when I had it apart.

I have a 2015 renegade that has been having some issues since the day i got it, continually getting an evap code. just pulled the boots of plugs and 1-3 looked great, while #4 was filled almost to the top with oil. I haven't done much engine work before but the first thing will be getting out the oil from the tube, any tips on where to start?
