Good to know it's also available in those other vehicles but configured differently. Seems like issues are increased with pushing the transmission harder for a beefier setup, much unlike some of the other vehicles it's in.

Actually this Version (9HP 48) is not pushed at all, it can take up to 480nm torque, the Trailhawk 2.0 diesel has 350nm.
The other Version (9HP 28) only takes up to 280nm, that would be a push!

Yes, you can check on the ZF Website or on Wikipedia, its the model 9HP 48 and is installed in the following cars: Acura TLX, Chrysler 200, Fiat Doblò, Fiat 500X, Honda CR-V (2015-), Jeep Cherokee (KL), Jeep Renegade, Ram ProMaster City, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Strange. The CR-V in the U.S. has a CVT rather than the 9HP48.

And I think someone above mentioned that the 9HP48 is a further development of the 8HP found in BMWs (and some Audis and some FCA products). While the transmissions are related via the company that designed and engineered them, they are very different transmissions.

What is your personal opinion of this transmission in the Renegade?!?!

Thank You~~
From what I read up on how it is constructed, I would expect that at a minimum, you'd get a couple hard shifts going up and down the 9 gear range. If the software employs skip shifts to optimize stuff, then number of transitions that could result in a harsh shift probably goes up. From what I understand they do for sure on the cherokee.

I suspect part of the cherokee's problem is that they have dog clutches in the 4wd system. those add harshness, and combined with the 9 speed's design, lead to some pretty crunchy shifts that customers complained about. I suspect their adjustments to the software to smooth things out basically boils down to taking longer shifts that permits some slip and they are stressing the friction surfaces in the transmission to smooth out the dog clutches and this is resulting in too much heat which is leading to the current spate of transmission failures in the '14 cherokees. I suspect that if you look, the '15 has more transmission cooling capacity. That's my suspicion. I'm optimistic that the renegade's base situation is better as downstream of the transmission isn't based on dog clutches but rather a multi- plate wet clutch setup, which is designed to have pretty variable slip, so if anything it will be used to smooth out the tranny.

I still have to score a test drive though. My nearest dealer has finally managed to keep a couple on the lot it seems, and I have some time off coming next week, so I'm probably going to go test drive a bunch of stuff while I'm off.

I know, I for one, am eager to hear your thoughts from your test drive. I have a feeling many other forum members are eager, as well.

Ford Escape. I can get a v6 4x4 and some cool tech for a couple k more than the Renegade with 0% for 60 or 72 months. It would probably be the same payment as the Renegade with tis rate.

What pulls the Renegade ahead is the TrailHawk. I work in an area with a lot of dirt roads that turn into pot holes after bad weather along near a lot of National Parks (Utah). I want the true off road capability of the Renegade.

I do worry about the transmission if it really is the same kind used in the Cherokee.
Since when does Ford offer the Escape with a V6? o_O

Did you mean a preowned Escape prior to 2013???
