When I start my Renegade Limited I get a "Perform Service" message on the cluster display. No check engine light, just the message for a few seconds on screen when starting up. The service countdown says 0 days, 0 miles too.

I brought it to the dealer and they couldn't figure out what was causing it. They did 8 software updates and the car is still displaying the "preform service" message.

It has just under 10k mikes and the oil alert has been reset, so we know that's not it. Disconnecting the battery doesn't fix it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I am pretty sure this is just a reminder to do the 10k service. If you rotate tires etc. (I don't) and check air filter... Unlikely to be meaningful at 10k. I never figured out how to reset it, but I got a screw in a tire and when that got repaired at a chevy dealer (Jeep was too busy) they reset it. So it can be done.

Service Reminder

So if I am understanding the posts about this you can reset oil light, but can't reset the service reminder without dealer or some thing else. So the message will just appear every time you start the Jeep. Hope someone finds a way this is stupid

I haven't had mine go off yet..but if it's like a warning light...there should be a code associated with it. You plug the obd2 tool into the slot under your steering wheel. Scan for codes...you can also clear codes, turning off the warning light...just like shops do. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001LHVOVK/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_W2EYwb0EQ7RC5
I use this scanner but there's wireless and Bluetooth scanners available on Amazon that work on Iphones and Android phones.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ieGeek%C2%AE-Wireless-Diagnostic-Scanner-iPhone4S/dp/B016I5WYVS/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1456087265&sr=1-3-fkmr0&keywords=BlueDriver+Bluetooth+Professional+OBDII+Scan+Tool+for+iPhone%2C+iPad+%26+Android UK.. you will need software but lots of free stuff on the internet and app store ..

Haven't tried the MS300 Diagnostic Scanner on the Renny yet but works on all the Fiats I've tried ..

Perform Service Message

I had an oil change done about a week ago (oil change message was showing). I was also getting close to the service interval as well. However, the dealer only did the oil change and reset the oil change indicator. I took Renly back to the dealer today to have the necessary computer updates done and specifically told them that the Perform Service message was on. When I got my Jeep back I didn't check the indicator but I did when I got home and it's still showing "perform service". Does anyone know how I can reset this? There's instructions in the manual to reset the oil change indicator but not the perform service indicator. I really don't want to go back to the gloomy dealership here in my hometown.

Any advice would be appreciated.

BTW.... 9950 miles and trouble-free! Love my Trailhawk!!

I have the MS300 as well and it works with my other vehicles, but I get the "Link Error" when I try it with my Jeep Renegade. Has anyone else tried the MS300 with the Renegade and gotten it to work?

I know with my obd tool...it says "link error" unless you push the ignition button, you don't have to fully start the vehicle, but you must push the ignition.
I have a key and with mine I do the following steps:

  1. Plug in the ODB II device
  2. Turn the key to RUN position (without cranking the engine)
  3. Press Enter on the ODB II

Now it takes 30 or 40 seconds and scans through all the various things. After this it displays the Link Error.

I'm sorry, you know what?...I actually did have to start my vehicle to get it to work. I used to have one of those smartrek devices AAA provides, that stays in the port at all times...so I knew having the OBD tool connected while running the engine wasn't a problem.

I've tried it and you have to have the Rene engine running ( 1.6 diesel )

For some reason it doesn't work for me. Tried now with just turning to run position and also fully starting the engine and then starting the scan. Always returns "Link Error". I have the countdown to 9600 miles warning, so I have to spend time taking it to the dealer to get them to reset it. Just did an oil change a month ago, so I doubt anything needs to be done. They mention lots of inspections in the manual, like brakes, fluid levels etc. Wish I could reset it myself.

Interesting, maybe it's just an incompatible device. My device connected and showed no codes. I haven't gotten to the point of service reminder yet though.
Which device do you have? I have the Autel Maxiscan MS300, which I think is linked earlier in this thread or the other one. I have the 1.4L Turbo / Manual. My scanner works fine on my Toyota FJ Cruiser so I know it isn't broken.

That's a good question since Priguy said in a previous post in this thread that they had the MS300. I'm thinking of purchasing one of these type scanners; but, I'd like to know which one actually works for the Renegade.
