Perform Service message, not Oil Change indicator

At 7000 miles, the oil change lite came on, and I had the oil changed, and the oil change indicator was reset. Since then I have watched the Perform Service message count down the miles, and days, which is separate from the oil indicator message. Currently I have 9700 miles on the Renegade, and the Perform Service message, which now shows anytime I start the Jeep, is at 0 mi and 42 days. My questions is: when the days count down to 0, and since the miles indicated is already at 0, does the Service Message then reset back to 10,000 miles, and the days set to whatever the inboard computer determines the number of days to 10,000 miles?

I have checked previous posts concerning my question, and only found that the dealer resets with some tool (Witech) that they have, and that was before the Perform Service message hits 0 mi and 0 days.

Someone also mentioned they used and OBD device, and found no codes. They weren't clear as to whether they cleared the actual Perform Service message.

It is a BS count down the dealer is the only one that can reset it after it hits 0. My dealer has no clue why it is set like that.

Yep, started noticing the "Service Before __ Miles" message about 2 weeks ago. Needed an oil change anyway, so had that done this evening at the dealer where we purchased our Renegade. When I got in the car to drive away after the service, I noticed the message was still there. Called the Service Advisor out and he looked at it and then went and got the mechanic who performed the oil change. He did the oil change reset and once they realized that wouldn't take the message off, I was told to bring the car back tomorrow - the mechanic who knows how to do the magic got off before we arrived for the oil change. Nope - I drove 60+ miles to get the oil change. I ain't going back during the day tomorrow.
So. I'll keep checking to see if it HAS to be done by the dealer of it a scan tool can reset the countdown.

mine just came on at 7400 miles. This is nothing more than a scam so we are forced to bring the vehicle back to The dealership so they can do a deliverence on you!! Any new news on how to reset this would be greatly appreciated. I guess I'm heading to the dealer to be violated! Not happy!!!

Just got home from having the 10K miles service done - nothing more than a tire rotation, oil and filter change, inspecting various moving bits for wear and proper lubrication, topping off fluids, checking security of hoses, etc. The service receipt exactly mimics the list of action items in the periodic maintenance list from the owner's manual.

They also did several software updates: BCM, IPC, ABS, PCM.

No charge for any of the work. All charged off to INTERNAL/WARRANTY on the invoice.

Of interest to this thread though, they forgot to reset the "Perform Service" nag message while they had the car in the service bay (I checked it before I left). They had to send the tech out to the parking lot do the task. Took about 5 minutes, and he let me watch. He plugged a wireless dongle into the OBDII port, synched it to his tablet computer and ran through a LONG menu of RESET options on the software in his tablet computer until he found the correct one. Now the display reads SERVICE 9850 miles / 360 days. Easy enough to do the reset if you have the correct software, but it apparently isn't generic because the software start-up "splash screen" prominently says MOPAR PROPRIETARY, NOT FOR PUBLICATION under the MOPAR logo and he had to enter my VIN to get to the correct menu. Note: evidently the engine has to be running before the jeep's onboard computer will accept the reset, because he tried it in ACC mode first and it didn't work. FYI YMMV

I'll have to do some research but I thought I saw a youtube video some months back that showed to put in accessory mode and pump the brake a certain number of times and so on. It was a bit different depending on Push to Start or key start. If I find it again I'll post a link.

Just found this on Reddit, No idea if it actually works, I'll have to try it later. They claim it's for the "Perform Service" message but I don't know..... "If you have the push to start model hit the start button with out your foot on the brake. The car will turn on but the engine will be off. Pump the break 3 times quickly and the push the start button again. This will reset the service message. If you have the model that uses a key just turn it one click then pump the breaks."

That process won't work on a Renegade. I KNOW this because the service manager tried it before he called the tech to do the reset via the OBDII port. His exact words afterward were " Well, that usually works but these Renegades have strange software, sorry. I'll get the tech for you."

BTW, the service manager tried that sequence twice. First using three brake pedal pumps in the sequence, and again using five pedal pumps in the sequence.

This did not work for me.

No help at dealership

When I start my Renegade Limited I get a "Perform Service" message on the cluster display. No check engine light, just the message for a few seconds on screen when starting up. The service countdown says 0 days, 0 miles too.

I brought it to the dealer and they couldn't figure out what was causing it. They did 8 software updates and the car is still displaying the "preform service" message.

It has just under 10k mikes and the oil alert has been reset, so we know that's not it. Disconnecting the battery doesn't fix it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I brought the Renegade in today for an oil change and tire rotate. I asked them to please reset the "Perform Service" countdown and they had no idea how.
Wondering if anyone else has had any luck. If this is a yearly thing, it will drive me mad!

See post #27 in this thread. It is quite simple, but must be done by a service tech using the proprietary Jeep diagnostic software via the ODBII interface (the same software they use to load computer updates into the vehicle). If the tech doesn't know how to do that simple thing, be VERY careful that they really know what they're doing in general - there are dozens of "horror stories" in these forums concerning clueless Jeep techs really screwing these vehicles up because they don't know how to work on modern, software-controlled automotive systems.

OK, I got the "Perform Service in 28 Days" counter on my dash about a month ago--it's been counting down ever since. I checked the owner's manual, and sure enough, there is an initial service due at either 16,000 km (10,000 miles) or 1 year. I'm just under 15K km but coming up to my 1-year anniversary about now, so...

However, neither of the Jeep dealers I contacted knew anything about this message. They both assured me there was NO service due on my vehicle (even after I read them chapter and verse from the maintenance schedule). So, I did all the checks listed in the schedule, except of course to "Check Engine Control Operation via Diagnostic Tool," as I don't have the tool (I was assured that, as I don't have a CEL showing, there is no need to do so). So far, OK, but I get tired of the service guys telling me it's "just an oil change reminder"--it's not, I did the oil change about 5K km ago (when the real oil change reminder lit up), and of course they're telling me to clear it the same way as the oil change reminder.

So, I called FCA Canada, and the FCA technical rep there was as clueless as the dealers--but at least he asked for help, and came back to me to say that yes, it's a reminder for the first service, and yes, I can do it myself as long as I document it, but no, I cannot reset the counter myself. I'm currently angling to get FCA to cover the cost of the dealer resetting it, as I don't see why I should be out of pocket just to reset the damn counter that FCA programmed into the vehicle. There is nothing wrong with my Renegade--why should I pay to get it "fixed?"

BTW, since my call to FCA, I happened to visit one local dealer; the service guy came out to look at the display, said he'd never seen that before, and logged onto his computer to check it out. Computer was telling him my vehicle has keyless ignition (it doesn't), so I asked if he might have got the VIN wrong--he insisted not. He then insisted that it's "just an oil change reminder"--aaarghh! I agree, with Copa Pilot, if these guys are so unfamiliar with this system, how could I trust them to repair anything serious? FCA has to step up and make sure their dealer service techs are trained on these vehicles.

Anyway....

It seems many dealers have no clue about the Renegade. So far my dealership has been pretty good only because the service techs I have dealt with really seem excited about the Renegade. I think that helps a lot. I would think the reset would be covered by the 3yr/36,000 mile warranty.

Spitfire. My service indicator clocked down to "0 days" and "0 miles" and stayed that way silently to 30k miles. We have no way to reset. Its a stupid additional monitor that we can do the same by watching the odometer. Ignore it. Just ignore it.

Yes I do change my oil according to the oil monitor and reset via the brake pedal. But for physical service, I monitor the miles old school method and log/document everything.

It is weird for some to monitor oil change by lifespan, and the monitor service by miles. Use to be do all the same time.

Thankfully the service monitor stays out mind. And out of sight. Ignore it.

Hope this helps.

Year and Model? My 2016 Limited doesn't have that screen at all.
Are you sure? It was a while before I discovered that after scrolling up or down to that 'page' you can then scroll left and right to get to other car data. On the thumbnail/picture above there is a row of dots near the top with one orange showing which horizontal page you are on.
