Does anyone use 6th gear with this engine? Even around 85 mph 5th works fine... when the hell would I need 6th?

I use it sparingly. Mainly highway over 75 mph. I really wish they would have gone the other way with the 6 speed. Give it a really low first labeled Low and then 1-5 for everyday use. Not the same as a 2 speed transfer case but would have still ben useful offroad. I remember my dads dump trucks having a gear labeled low that was only use when the truck was loaded.

On mostly flat roads I use 6th anywhere from 50mph and up. It's all about getting to a lower RPM and dropping out of the boost range, for better fuel economy.

On highways (anything over 65mph) I don't even see the need to downshift to accelerate. 6th still has enough torque for basic passing.

I know shift points are personal preference - but why would you keep the revs in the 3500 range when this engine develops usable torque as low as 2000 rpm?

I go 6th over 55 mpg at flat lands and use 5th normally in town traffics.

My technique depending on road conditions (uphill/downhill):
3000 rpm on 1st from 0-20 mph
2800 rpm on 2nd from 20-30 mph
2600 rpm on 3rd from 30-40 mph
2400 rpm on 4th from 40-50 mph
2200 rpm on 5th from 50-60 mph
2000 rpm on 6th from 60-70 mph

Hard to explain but I listen to the sound of the engine as well, it tells me when to change gear.

Is there no Shift Up/Down indicator on the US manual models?!
Doesn't that rather defeat the point of getting a manual gearbox? If you're gonna shift when the car tells you, you may as well let the car do the shifting.
I thought getting a manual box in this day and age was all about "being in control" :)
