Got my letter in the mail last night. Here it is with the me specific stuff cropped out.

Set up an appointment with my dealer, their first reaction was "the letter says that parts are not yet available". Tells you something that that is their canned answer for a recall. My portal literally says parts are available. The stupid fan has been out for over a year now.

But the letter gets to the real reason why it is getting fixed. They don't care about us, but it affects emissions which they are in deep doodoo for fudging numbers on. So....

The way I read it is that the dealer will inspect your vehicle. If it has the bushing fan, you will get a ball bearing fan. If it has the ball bearing fan they will leave it as is and maybe direct you to seek reimbursement. Either way the dealer will file the bit of compliance paperwork, which is what FCA really needs.

I just had my fan replaced the other week (2016 Trailhawk, 34,000 miles). I haven't seen a recall come through for my VIN yet but hopefully it does so I can get reimbursed!
I entered my VIN into Mopar's recall website and found the campaign for V54. I submitted my reimbursement this morning. It says up to 60 days for review.

I received my letter over the weekend and submitted my claim on Sunday. Hopefully they'll actually pay out. I could use the extra $400.

I had this fan replaced at the dealer 2 years ago... I do not have the copy of the paper work. Shouldn't they be able to look in their system and see that I have had the repair done on my vehicle? Cost me $650. It also burned the top of my fog lights from the heat. My running lights and fog lights have had electrical issues ever since the fan died.

If it were me, I'd contact the dealer and see if they have the work order on file. FCA isn't going to do any of the leg work, that's for sure.

Dealer provided the proof of work but could not produce a copy of the receipt....... I sent them a copy of my bank statement that month showing the card withdrawal to the dealership for the amount on the proof of work invoice.

That is weird that they are reimbursing you for the job but they show you haven't had the recall completed? What?

They probably want to still inspect the vehicle. If the repair was originally not done by a dealer, or done by a dealer using a possible defective part, the fan will probably get replaced again to clear the recall on that VIN. FCA will also reimburse for repairs with proper receipts.

I can certainly understand why you'd be requesting this information and it would be my pleasure to get this email answered for you!

I had a moment to review your contact here Jeff, and with the VIN provided I am showing your vehicle to have no recalls whatsoever!
i guess i just keep an eye on the temp. gauge and play with the fan when i check the oil. ride on and carry a lot of TUMS for the stomach

*UPDATE* I received an email today from Jeep stating that my reimbursement has been approved and that I should expect a check to arrive in the mail within 30 days. However, there was an interesting note in the email:

"We found in our system that Recall V54 in your vehicle is still incomplete. We would like to advise you to bring your vehicle in a FCA dealership for your vehicle to have V54 recall completed."

The work was done at a Jeep dealership and they've confirmed that the reimbursement check is on its way. I'm not sure what part of this transaction they're considering "incomplete", but as long as the check clears I'm satisfied!

That's because you brought it in and paid for it before there was a recall. They want you to bring it back to assure the replaced part is the most current. The actual recall was still never performed.

No Notice?

I'm starting to get a little concerned about this. I have a 2016 latitude 2.4 4x4. 36k miles. I thought the notices were supposed to be sent out in July. I've got nothing from FCA and my VIN doesn't bring up anything in the FCA VIN recall lookup. I thought ALL 2016's had the bad fan. Is it possible that mine has a good fan? I've thought about taking it in and telling the dealer "my fan is making funny noises" just to see if it is the old style fan and what they would do about it. Only downside would be footing a $500 repair bill until i can get a refund. Thoughts? Thanks

Call Jeep Customer Service 877-426-5337 and tell them your notice hasn't come yet. They can check to see if your VIN is included.

Thanks, but that was essentially useless. The rep I spoke to said my vehicle is not under recall for V54. It may be later, but isn't now. She stated i should just keep driving it. Which, at 36k miles, seems to be pushing my luck if I have the old style fan. Which brings me back to my initial question. Is there any chance my vehicle was built with the bearing fan and not with the bushing fan?
