I waited and waited for the new Jeep Renegade to come out and finally it is here. I test-drove it several time and I am not liking it as much as I had hope to. Right now my 2 concerns are visibility....and the massive rear-view mirror thing!! If I get one, I may get BSM (although that is an extra $2K with everything that is required to go with it.) But seriously, what's with the rear-view mirror? The transponder has to go below it, which puts it in the middle of the window, blocking even more. How has this been for you? I am hoping that I would just get used to it.

Being a tall guy you would think this would've been one of the concerns for me lol but to be honest I didn't notice it until certain situations arose where it was in the way like certain traffic lights and signs. But it's not really an issue and is something I've gotten used to.

To be honest, it's not that bad at all. My mother had a Hyundai Sonata (the early/mid 2000's model that looked like a Jag) and that thing had a tiny windshield with the mirror halfway down it. THAT was annoying! This one causes me to do a little bobbing and weaving with my head when I pull up too close to a traffic light. But other than that, it doesn't cause any issues at all. Especially coming from a Jetta that had a relatively small windshield.

Actually, it’s not the interior rear view mirror. It’s a wedge shaped box that’s positioned directly in front of the interior mirror that’s large, imposing, and blocks the upper center part of the windshield. On my test drive, I noticed it. I didn’t care much for its size either but I didn’t find it bothersome.

I think the box contains accident avoidance technology. Namely a lane departure warning system for Renegade models that have the option. Jeep may have used the same box for all Renegades including models that don’t have accident avoidance tech. It may also house other electronic components as well but I don’t know.

You’ll have ask Jeep if there’s a regular rear view mirror offered without the wedge shaped box as an accessory. If so, then you have to find out whether it can be substituted on your Renegade considering your model and options.

I have had my Trailhawk about a month and I really don't notice the large rearview mirror/box thingy. I do, however, notice the foot long crack in my windshield :-(. Less than 2000 miles and I already have to have the windshield replaced.
