Rear Wiper

So I've been driving different soft top wranglers over the last 10 years so I haven't had a rear wiper in a long time, so maybe this is a stupid question.

Anyone else notice that when your front wipers are on, and you put the Renegade in reverse the rear wiper automatically clears the rear windshield?

At first I thought there was something wrong. But this morning I spent about 5 minutes putting the car in park, then reverse, then park, then reverse, then park, etc to see if it would always come on.

Thats normal. All Fiats do that. It is so you can see out your rear window when backing up when you have your car sitting out in the rain.
Can you disable this? What about backing on the trail with a rear window full of dirt, perfect sandpaper for the rear glass.

I guess you could just turn off the front wipers before going into reverse, but if you had them on anyway, you probably have a wet rear window as well (with exception, of course).

If you run off the wipers you can or you can remove the arm.

However though if you are using your wipers off roading chances are you are doing some mudd'n anyway. The thinig about hatcbacks is their butts collect dirt and mud just out of shear design. If you are forced to back down a trail I would think it would be useful to clear dirt/ mud so you can see where you are going.
That seems like a nice feature but I can see how some would like it off. Possibly in the Uconnect settings?
Just checked and unfortunately this feature is not controllable by the Uconnect settings, nor by the wiper controls

I hardly ever use my rear-view to back up. It's a good skill to have for the day that your vehicle is filled to the top and you can't see out the back window at all regardless of how clean it is.

I think it is even a greater skill when you are able to see as much as you can when backing up.

Tried it today since it was raining. And sun of a gun, the rear wiper does indeed turn on while reversing. And not intermittently either; steady wiping for as long as you're backing up.

This is the first I ever heard of a car doing this.
VW's too have this feature. If your front wipers are on, the second you put the vehicle in reverse, it'll activate the rear wiper.
Is the rear window supposed to have water/window fluid come out to clear with the wiper? It appears on the switch that the symbol indicates that there is supposed to be window washing fluid that is supposed to come out - but I can't seem to make my fluid come out... anyone?

When you activate the rear washer, can you hear anything? When I activate mine (on my Scenic) I can hear the pump. Several cars I have had you can hear the pump.

Do you hold it long enough so water comes out?
I remember someone on here posted that they had to hold it for awhile when they used it for the first time. Push the lever forward and hold- as it takes its good time working its way to the back.
The Honda Fit also has the rear wiper come on when reversed with the front wiper. I think it only
made 3 sweeps.

Just to give you all a heads up some one stole the plastic cap on the rear wiper and you can not get that part! I had to buy the whole wiper arm!

Thieving lowlife scum b*st*rd. Is there a plastic cap from another make/model that would have fitted it? Surely it can't be a Jeep only part, considering how many vehicles have rear wash wipes fitted. I can believe that you had to buy the complete assembly just for a piece that would cost pennies. There is the reason why. They make more cash selling a complete assembly than a small part for pennies.
It's an interesting feature, and I can live with it, but I could disable it I would.
Rear wiper now automatic?

Sorry if I'm posting the obvious. But yesterday it was raining, I started the engine, turned on the wipers, put the manual in reverse, and the rear wiper came on!

Stopped and tried turning it off, and went thru the same comedy routine several times before I figured it out.

Since I couldn't find this in the OM, and haven't read about it here, do I have an electrical short or is it me. Be gentle.
