Greetings all, I have read the entire blog and thank you for all the info. So, this is where my story starts...please understand that I did not drive very much for the first 2 years...and still don't.

Purchased new Renegade Trailhawk on 7/5/2018 in San Diego

7/5/2019 first oil change with an odometer reading of 4,478 miles. I did not check the level due to the infrequent driving.

8/11/2020 second oil change with a reading of 9,141 miles.

1/27/2021 W20 recall notice for PMC REPROGRAM at 12,063 miles.

3/17/2021 “check trans” message showed up on dash, taken in, no problems...12,723 miles.

7/13/2021 third oil change reading 15,171 miles.

Now just a couple of week ago I am hearing the “My Sky Panel Rattle” which is what I learned after online research. At that time I came across this forum regarding the oil. This past year I have driven more so on 12/10/2021 I popped the hood to check and I was down a full quart. At $9 a quart I'm not looking forward to spending money on this problem but did so, please see pics. So, after driving 3,686 miles I am a quart low. I have called my local Jeep dealer in Santa Monica CA and was told that they will do the first “oil test” at my own expense. Then they will require a second oil test, again at my expense. If found to be an issue, the engine will be replaced and oil changes will be reimbursed. I know that I'm not burning 1 quart every 1,000 miles but still loosing oil. I may not be an ASE mechanic but this sounds like a problem to me. Like most of you, I am not happy and have driven Jeep's since 2002 with never an issue like this.

After further research, thanks Spudster for the “static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10187101-9999.pdf “, it seems that I would NOT qualify! When I told the service person that I had lost one quart over 3,686 and think I needed the test he could have told me on the spot today that I would have failed...seems like he purposely wants to rip me off... AND TWICE!!! Really not happy with this service person at all!

Question, what is the difference between the W20 & W80?

Also, any advice? I love the Renegade but should I dump it with the high used value right now? I had planned on keeping it for a long time. Truly sad.

Oh, and when I asked about the sky panel issue, I was told that only a couple of tech's can do this and it would have to be done sometime next year. Only a couple of tech's that can add felt and lube the panels? Mind blowing!!! Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!?!

This is where you ask to see the service manager, and ask him/her how the oil level looks to them.
I did ask to speak to the supervisor/manager and they said there was no manger or supervisor that day and that one would call me back. I said they never call back and they didn’t. Went back today and explained this, also asked that someone look at my oil because I think I need oil added but the technician has made me feel like I don’t know how to read the dipstick! They will do the test again at next oil change however, they told me I cannot check the oil myself beforehand and “break the seal” 🤦‍♀️ - the little piece of orange putty that will press right back down…

Also this is what I found today, so I had read a bulletin that said the Jeep would fall the test if the oil was at the halfway mark between the full line and the add line. So I was in there telling this tech that even if the oil was “at the fill line” it would still fail. However, today I go to find the same notice explaining how to do the test and there is one that is dated Jan 2021 that says “at or above the full line” passes! The other bulletin was dated May 2020. Both from that same “static…” website. Did they change the test parameters or is the first one for just the software update? At the fill line at 1500 seems like a lot of oil to lose and still pass! I’m in my 3rd year of law school and this has my wheels spinning! My gas mileage isn’t anywhere near as “expressly” stated and advertised too…. My first new car, this was a big purchase for me. Got me very upset!

I totally feel you! The MPG on the sticker stated 21 city and 29 highway with a combined 24 city/hwy...I cant even get past 17.9! And that's with extremely conservative driving, I mean putting it into neutral in-between stop signs to cruise and judging distance as to not use the gas in the city!!! What a rip-off:mad: Thanks and please keep us posted.

2017 Jeep Renegade. It has used 1 to 1.5 quarts every 5,000 miles since new. We got our oil consumption notice last year right after I changed the oil. Called the dealer and they said wait till the next change is due and bring it in. It was a little over a quart low when I took it in for the test in November of 2021. Returned it at 1,650 and over1/2 qt low for the results and they said I needed an engine replacement and would order the parts and call when they were in. I was curious about the whole dye in the oil and tamper proofing the engine during the test thing since I checked the oil myself once a week and he said they didn't do any of that they just put oil in and scribe the dipstick then recheck it. The new long block came in last week and we took the Renegade in today and they said it would be complete in a few days. This dealer is 45 miles from us and they are great. We have two dealers closer to home but will not use them because issues in the past and I know it wouldn't have gone this smooth with them.

Is this legit? I just got a letter saying theres a recall on my 2018 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk about a problem about oil consumption. The letter says they need to:
Reprogram powertrain module

Anyone else got that letter? Im gonna call my closest dealer after the holydays probably..

Vincent
I never received a letter however my 2018 Renegade looses most of the oil between oul changes and no one can explain why. Now while driving it will for no reason switch to neutral. These issues are becoming scary

If your 2018 Renegade has the 2.4 engine it should be a part of this customer satisfaction bulletin on oil consumption. Our 2017.has used 1 to 1.5 quarts between oil changes since new. We received the bulletin last fall and took it in for the test. It failed and they ordered a new engine and are installing it right now. Contact a dealer (one you trust, we have two near us but will not go to them. We drive 45 miles to a dealer we like) and ask them about the W80 service bulletin.

Hey everyone, I know this thread has been around a while but I moved and it delayed me getting notice of the W80 Recall. I finally was able to get an appointment for my 2016 latitude and get it into the dealer mopar recommended. My question is did anyone have to pay for the service?

I spoke twice with them over the phone as my original appointment had to be changed but not once was I advised I would be paying anything. The service department asked me when my last oil change was and advised they should do one when I come in for the recall. When I showed up they didn’t mention anything about it costing anything and not until it was done did they present me with a $145 bill.

Is this normal? I thought with recalls and any work done for it there would be no charge or am I just crazy?

For those of you who are getting a new long block because of the oil consumption test look at your service receipt when you pick your Jeep up. It says no warranty on parts which means if your factory warranty has run out on the Jeep there is no warranty on the new engine. So when you drive it off the lot it's your baby. Lucky us we got the lifetime bumper to bumper Warranty when we bought our Renegade so the new engine is covered until we sell it.

Call your local dealer and give them the vin off of it and they should be able to tell you. They have to do an oil consumption test first then if the test falls within the range they will replace the engine
