I own a 2015 2.4L. Original owner. Today I got a letter from FCA concerning the cooling fan. Not exactly a recall, but a "Customer Satisfaction Notification". It says that they will inspect the cooling fan, and replace if needed at no cost. I myself have never had a problem with it, but may take them up on it.

If they were to look at my original 2015 fan today there would be nothing found wrong with it. My plastic bearing/bushing is holding up fine so far. Does this mean they WON'T replace the fan until there is something wrong with it (and I'm left stranded somewhere)? That would figure.

If we can trust the Canadian letter, if you have a bushing fan, it will be replaced witha ball bearing fan, regardless of state of function.

I got that letter yesterday, drove right to my dealer, and they are replacing it next Tuesday. The irony here is that in a preemptive strike kind of move, I bought a new fan on Amazon and it is sitting on my couch. Mine is not yet failing, but since this is free let them do it. I have a 2000 mile trip coming up and I'd rather it NOT break down while I am on the road and it cost me money to have it fixed.

It is the V54 Customer Satisfaction Notification
Look at my post

Yesterday I received the V54 letter even though my problem has been fixed since last week. I was the second customer to have had this problem since June 27th.

Here is the course of events that concerned me.

1- Key not-detectable
2- Check engine
3- Air conditioning does not work anymore
4- I scan my Renegade with my ODB2 software
The result is: Error Code P0481: Cooling Fan 2 Malfunction Circuit Control
5- Overheating of the engine
6- I raise the heating up to bring down the temperature.
7- I contact my dealer who announces me that there is a reminder about this problem that was issued on June 27th.
8- I immediately go to the dealer who changes the fan.
NOTE: my vehicle is no longer under warranty I only got paid for a fuse, $ 15 CDN bill

DO IT! Ours failed two weeks ago before the notice. Poor timing, but we were not able to use the renegade for three weeks with the overheating and other necessary repairs to the cooling tank and hose due to this issue. The car was smoking when it went out.

I didn't receive such a letter, yet.
Update; I just received my notice to get the fan replaced (no charge). There hasn't been a problem with mine and the bearings appear to be good.

Now I will have to make an appointment to get this done. My local dealer is very good, but it is still a pain to have to bring it in.

I received my letter a couple days ago, but I had this repair done under warranty last year. I checked and yes, I do have the metal backed fan, which means they replaced the fan shroud assembly.

Kind of wondering if I should get it done again just so I can have a fan shroud that is 6,000 miles newer?

Got the letter today. How can I tell if I have a bushing fan? It's 110F here and now I am worried.

DO you have a 2017 or older and never had the fan replaced? TADA!!!!! you have a bushing fan.

Also.. if you got the letter and have not had your fan replaced, you have a bushing fan. They will not be notifying people with renny's manufactured with the new part. The ambiguity comes from the fact that thousands of vehicles were repaired under warranty or at owner's expense with old parts, new parts, 3rd party parts, etc.
