Greetings.

My 2015 Renedgade Latitude started the (regular) 9-1-1 lights going on after the March update. If your Jeep Caseworker or Dealer want to tell you they need to change out ANY hardware, stand your ground and say, "NO!".

From day one here's my synopsis:
1) original hacking update done by my radio station engineer.
2) Issues with dash units, electric brake, etc developed. Jeep mandated a radio/uconnect changeout. Was without car 18 days, new radio did NOT fix the problem.
3) Update on software for above problems attempted (reloading old software) at dealer....NO GO.
4) Very polite and helpful software engineer came from Detroit area to the dealer to "test" the March 2016 (Uconnect 6.5) software. It held all settings..but introduced the "red lights" issue.
5) TWO visits to dealer for "extracting information followed in May, 2016.
6) Yesterday, the overhead console was removed and replaced at the "order" of Jeep, who seem to think they own this vehicle and can just try anything while they remain clueless as to how to fix it. Basically, "throwing parts at it".
7) Lights still come on after new overhead console (could have told them it's a software issue)...and...the new console's FIT is not right, the buttons have space around them where it was tight and nice-looking before! .....

DO NOT ALLOW JEEP TO TEAR APART YOUR VEHICLE FOR ISSUES CAUSED BY SOFTWARE! HOLD YOUR GROUND....OR, if, like me, you're sick of this constant software uncertainty, pursue buyback or your state's Lemon Law. Jeep has NO CLUE how to fix issues with the software. PLEASE don't let them blame it on hardware. The ONLY hardware issue is the fact that Uconnect was released before it was ready!

Disclaimer: My deepest thanks to Rob, the Software engineer who came to my dealer, and to my LOCAL dealership, Young Chrysler Jeep in Ionia, MI. They've been accommodating, polite, and helpful as much as they can, given that they're working in new territory trying to fix this monster! I want NONE of my comments to reflect badly on my local dealer or the tech who came from Jeep to personally see that my software was updated. It's the PRODUCT that is flawed, and these people (bless their hearts) are charged with trying to keep customers happy, and are doing their best.

Forgot to put in this message this note as received from my dealership. As you can see the DEALERSHIP is doing all it can for a product with issues:

Your vehicle is not fixed, however the Chrysler engineers are coming up with (a solution?) they did ask for some more information while we had it here, the lights did come on again after the repair. They said they would research it and get back with us again!

This has been happening to me for the last couple months now. Its so annoying. The only way to get rid of the is for me to press the assist button every time i get into the car. I dont know why jeep cant figure out any problems. It was introduced with a software update, but they think its a hardware issue? That makes sense...

Jeep is throwing parts at the Jeep Renegade constant electronics issues. They don't have a clue.
Jeep should be ashamed of the way a new car buyer has issues like this. Even moreso, a first-time-ever new car buyer....

Let it call 9-1-1, and tell your dispatchers that it's NOT AN EMERGENCY, that your car makes the call due to Jeep software issues. If we all do this, and it catches on, maybe some news source gets hold of the story for their "automotive" stories, SOMETHING WOULD get done. I'm thinking of letting it complete the calls each time I hit the button that's red to shut it off. After all, it's not my fault the software "hoovers!"

You have me worried. The red light thing just started happening to me yesterday, after a recent Uconnect software "upgrade" i did with a flash drive to fix a different issue (which it did not fix). I'm bringing it in to the dealership on Monday for this issue, among several other electrical problems. I hope it goes smoothly. I'll let you know if they have more luck with the red lights than what you're experiencing, and if they solve it I will let you know how.

My red lights are frequently on. Haven't bothered to look into a fix. It was happening before the last software update, and it's still happening. Guess I'd be more concerned if I thought I'd ever use the buttons.

Uconnect/9-1-1 Problem Solved....for me...

In a different way.
After 9 months of software updates, red lights, and 9-1-1 calls, I finally have the problem no longer in my life. I traded the Renegade in last night for another Jeep product without all the half-baked electronics. Bought locally, and found a Jeep product which rides well, gets good mileage and meets my needs.

The dealer is aware of the Renegade issues, and is actually going to close the case with Jeep on my 9-1-1 issues, then ask them to compensate me in the form of a reduced price lifetime warranty on my replacement vehicle after putting up with this for so long...My salesperson, a manager at the dealership was played one of the FCA upper-level calls I got reassuring me they know about the red lights but have NO solution, but engineers "are working to resolve the issue."

Quite frankly, that's sad, and a cheat to anyone with this issue. Paying this much for a vehicle and having repeated software issues is just as bad as Volkswagen lying about their emissions or any other product being released with known issues, the BIGGER issue being how much we all paid for these.

So, with relief, I won't be a Renegade owner any longer, but stayed loyal to Jeep. I may drop in now and then to read what's new here, but will likely de-activate and move to another forum.

May your travels be fun and safe in your Renegades, and your problems be few....and may FCA bless you with the "extinguishing of the lights"...

Was it just the red lights, because I have the same problem, but everything but the wifi works in mine and not able to register with uconnect, which is sad, but I'm keeping mine. I'm going to call my dealer up today and see how they are going to compensate me for it.

I figured I grew up without all this tech and can live without it, but am going to push them for something.

Good luck with your new jeep.

My vehicle came UN-ready for wifi, had to get the original non-hackabkilty software upgrade to bring the radio up to the version capable of doing it. Mine was the uconnect 6.5. Look for a software update, run it, and you should be okay. The Red lights are a known problem with NO fix yet, as stated in a long call from Chrysler to me, and the problem was accentuated with their last software update. Along the way I had an update (the March 2016 one) installed by a Chrysler engineer AT MY DEALERSHIP as I was the "beta test" for it then it was released.

I hated the awful quality AM which made broadcasters sound awful, (not our fault) and...just couldn't take it anymore. Luckily, my salesperson is from my town, and knew of my issues, but still did me well on my trade-in.

So, stay ON JEEP ask for them to involve the ENGINEERS and get to the highest level of help you can. My suggestion is that you use email and open a "case" with them. Use the following link and tell them YOU'RE AWARE THERE'S NO FIX yet, but that you plan "action" with regard to this if something isn't done. Had I not traded in my Jeep, I was about to ask for a DEACTIVATION of the 9-1-1 emergency and Uconnect help buttons, sign something to say I know it's "permanently off" and ask for a refund of whatever it cost retail to put that in my car. By the way, tell them the AM radio is horrible, too. They owe ALL drivers a good radio....you're paying for it! (and broadcasters like me would appreciate it.)

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!

Could someone explain what is being discussed in this thread? As a soon-to-be new owner, now I'm concerned.

(BTW, the Renegade I'm buying has the one-step-up-from-base UConnect 5.0 with the smaller screen, 5" I think.)

So from what I have read, and experienced this is a problem with the 6.5 UConnect. If the software is updated up to or past the recall update (definitely happens on the 2016-03-02 update) then everytime the jeep is started the Assist and 911 overhead lights will light red, if it has been less then approximately an hour since the last time the Jeep has been started. If it has been hours since the jeep was started, the lights do no not light up. No Call to 911 is actually made, the light is just red. You can clear the light by pressing the assist button and then clearing it on screen. If you just press the light once and don't cancel it out on the screen it will remain green and cause other weird jeep staying awake issues. Occasionally the red light will clear itself on a long trip. It is annoying, my wife never even notices it. For me, the problem was introduced when the dealer updated the SW at 10k miles. Personally, I felt like they should've known about it at that point, but they have a liability too considering the update is a safety recall. Do I wish I could downgrade? Sure, but is it a big deal? Not really. I hope a fix comes soon, I wish there was motivation to fix a non-safety related bug. All that said, I like my Jeep very much, and the MySky was worth it. Also, my service dealer tried to claim this was a feature because a new on lot Jeep with the same specs did the same thing, clearly it makes no sense, and if you read the manual it specifically says the solid red lights mean communication error with the service. So don't expect anything useful from a dealer. (i'm sure others feel differently) UConnect does admit its a bug.

My 2016 Jeep renegade Trailhawk has started to have the same issues. The overhead emergency lights come on every once in awhile. Also my Navigation went off the grid a couple of times. At one point it said that I was driving down the middle of a river! Te next time it showed that I was in a totally different town than I was in. I'm wondering if these two things are related? And after reading your posts, I'm almost afraid to contact the dealer.
