Great idea, but I see you have to install it in the heater hose, that means no hot water until the engine is warm, not so hot on a cold day.

Staying with the concept, I found some that are connected to your car electric so it is hot much quicker:

yeah the video I showed was actually from that brand! I forgot to mention that it was an option. I was already going to be hooking up two additional things to the battery so a third that seems to be constantly pulling power, wasn't quite an option.

Chevy had this technology not long ago on their Silverado, which was simply a button inside that near the radio that one could press, just like heated seats. Would have been something I would have payed for.

The Renegade doesn't have heated washer jets, even with the cold weather pack? That's disappointing. Every car I've owned (a lot) since about 1998 has had heated washer jets as standard equipment. And yes, they come in quite handy to rid the windshield of frost in just about an instant. I'm surprised that Jeep hasn't caught up to this yet?!

The cold weather package for the Renegade is listing as having a windshield de-icer. Wouldn't this be heated washer jets, or is it something different?

Different. That is a heated strip (similar to what you find on the rear window) that helps to keep the wipers from icing up in their parked position. Subarus have had this feature for years.

Mine has it. It's essentially useless. If there's enough ice for it to be needed, you have to clear the entire windshield. In which case, running the car with the defroster blowing will do the job too. If they are icing up while moving, well.. you are dead because you are piloting an out of control car-cicle/ball of ice into the nearest ravine at highway speeds. Also, if the weather is overwhelming your defroster blowing on the windshield, the little heated strip isn't making a difference.

It does make your windshield cost about $100 more to replace though.
