I would like to eliminate ALL of the instances of horn honking alerts if I could. I’ve learned to not hit the lock button until I’m absolutely ready to get out. Dawdle for a minute and there goes the damn horn.

Other times, such as opening the rear hatch causing it to start honking is so frustrating!

Recently I parked in my driveway and purposely hit the UNLOCK button upon exiting the car as I planned to come back out and do a thorough vacuuming/cleaning. When I returned and opened the driver door the horn started honking. I didn’t have my keys with me. Closing the door did nothing. By the time I ran back in the house to get my keys and returned, the honking had escalated in frequency. None of the buttons on the fob would stop it. Got in the car & started it. Still honking. Turned it off & got out, still honking. It FINALLY stopped but I can’t say if any of the repeated button pushing stopped it. The neighborhood dogs didn’t stop barking for a few more minutes lol

I’m pretty sure at some point in the past I found a setting, possibly having to do with security/safety to turn that off. Now I can’t seem to find it.

Help! That honking is extremely aggravating!!!

Welcome!

That sounds like the alarm malfunctioning -- not the short beep when doors are locked.

It may depend on your Renegade's year and Uconnect version; but on my 2021 Trailhawk with Uconnect 4C Nav, the beep function is set under Settings > Doors & Locks -- looks like it can only be set to beep when locking:

I agree with Marek K, sounds like the alarm is malfunctioning. It might be worthy to take a trip to the dealer and let them plug in and run a diagnostic. Sure, it'll cost ya, but better than being known as "that guy" in your neighborhood. One guy in my neighborhood many years ago had an alarm system that did one beep once then LOUDLY say, "step away from the vehicle". If you didn't quickly enough, it did that whole songbook of car alarms sounds; WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP, UH UH UH, WEE-OO WEE-OO WE-OO, WEEEE WEEEE WEEEE. Wait 10 seconds then repeat. And he parked in the street. If a car drove by too close, the songbook opened.

He was "That Guy".

Don't be That Guy.

yes it should, because the keyfob is not with you.

you are a security threat opening the door
page 21 in your manual
OK, I just checked p. 21 -- I assume you mean this paragraph:

It says, logically, that the alarm will sound "if something triggers the system," and "[w]hile the Vehicle Security system is armed."

I just tried it in the garage. Unlocked the Trailhawk's doors; placed the keyfob well out of range in the house; and was able to open the car door without an alarm. And, of course, the turn signals didn't flash.

you have to let it arm. dont know how long it takes.

"the Vehicle Security system will arm regardless of whether you are in the vehicle or not."
The full sentence reads: "If one of the previously described arming sequences has occurred, the Vehicle Security system will arm regardless of whether you are in the vehicle or not."

The "previously described arming sequences" are listed in the section titled TO ARM THE SYSTEM just before that. There are three of them: 1) pushing the lock button on the interior power door lock switch with the driver and/or passenger door open; 2) pushing the lock button on the exterior Passive Entry Door Handle with a valid key fob available in the same exterior zone; or 3) pushing the lock button on the key fob.

So I don't see any way for the alarm to become armed if the doors aren't locked. And DaveSt wrote that his alarm would sound when he opened an unlocked door.

It just doesn't make sense for the alarm to arm itself with the doors unlocked...

it does make sense, you might forget to arm it thus after some time it will set the alarm itself.
You mean it might arm itself with the doors unlocked?

No, there's nothing in the Owner's Manual about that, as far as I can see.

I've had my 2021 Trailhawk sitting in the garage for about two days now, not driven, and with the doors unlocked. I just walked up to it without my keyfob, and the driver's door opened right up with no alarm. (And, of course, the vehicle didn't flash its lights that it was "waking up," since I didn't have the keyfob.)

Whenever you lock the doors (in whichever of three ways), that's when the alarm arms itself.

By the way, I think conversations like this are really useful for all of us to understand how the really complex electronics behave on these vehicles...

This happens to me all the time and I’m trying to figure out how to disable it or delay it. I’ve had it happen when I’ve specifically hit the unlock button to try to prevent it. When I get out of the car too slow. Yesterday it happened as I was trying to load my dogs and one of them jumped into the front seat. It’s quite frustrating because it’s loud and my key is normally in my purse. No solution. Just saying inexperienced the same thing with my 2020 renegade and now my 2022 renegade.

you can do this , but disabling an alarm feature is never a good choice
