The Patriot is very outdated, buying a brand new one is essentially the same as it was in 2007, you'd be better off buying a used patriot with low mileage if you really like it. Also, in my opinion, a patriot is not exactly "cool" when you start comparing it to the renegade, because it looks OLD (again, outdated design) and boring in comparison, inside and out. The Renegade is very much a Jeep and easily recognizable as one, but it is also clear that the exterior as well as interior design is much more modern than other small non-wrangler jeeps like patriot and compass. Cherokee is modern but doesn't have that classic jeep look to it. Grand Cherokee is modern and Jeep looking - but it is much more expensive.
My Sales guy told me Jeep was going to phase out the Patriot and Compass in 2017. That should be the last model year for them both. Just like you said, he said Jeep feels they are both outdated and not worth the effort to update them. He showed me a chart they had with the different models and when they were going to get updated or discontinued. The Cherokee will get an update around 2017-2018 as well.

I went for the renegade.
If I was you I would go for the patriot.
You seem to care what people think about you more than how good the car is.
That is not a bad thing for young people.:D

That makes sense, I would discontinue them both if I was in charge as well, they are outdated, and the compass, well, those are heaps of garbage in my book, as I have had bad experiences with selling them in the past. One of my customers had so many issues with their compass that they bought used (but it had only 10,000 miles on it and was 2 years old). They had such a bad time with it - they said they had always owned Jeeps and that they were going to get rid of it and never buy any Jeep ever again.

Jeep is working on a model to slot between the Renegade and Cherokee. It's likely that it will retain the Compass name but won't have anything in common from what I've seen. I think we'll see it at auto shows early next year.

Had a 2014 Patriot...now own a 2015 Renegade Trailhawk...hands down the Renny wins every category (especially cool factor!) against the Patriot except price...my Renegade was 2x the price as my Patriot almost on the dot. BUT completely base model Patriot and FULLY loaded Renegade....hard to compare.

I would agree with that, hard to compare. The Renegade is Jeep's first first small SUV, so until Jeep do another small SUV in years to come, then no other Jeep is comparable to the Renegade.

I buy at employee pricing and must have test driven 5 Patriots over 2 years. I could never even bring myself to talk turkey with the dealer. The first time I drove a Renegade I was on the hunt for one. I could have gotten a Patriot for a lot less, but driving the Renegade was a much more enjoyable experience. Now it has over 13k miles on it and it's been perfect AND fun.

I briefly considered the Patriot as well — used of course because they've been the same since its 2011 mid-cycle refresh — but the manual-transmission Patriot can only be had in the basest of trims (though props to them for still offering an AWD + stick combo). The Renegade in a stick can be had with AWD in both Sport and Latitude trim, with the latter also available in the cold weather package, upgraded audio system, larger head unit, and different roof options. The 1.4T is also a much smoother and more refined feeling engine than the ol' Chrysler Tigershark engine and, from what I've read anyway, the 6-speed has a better feel than Patriot's 5-spd manual.

You know, while I am still looking forward to getting a Renegade and it is on the top of my short list, (the other is the Hyundai Tucson), I was really looking forward to seeing the debut of the Compass/Patriot replacement at the NY Auto show but Jeep stated recently that its debut is being delayed. I really wanted to compare it. Oh well.

Patriot vs Renegade

I might be an old school guy but the more I see some Patriot the more I like it better than the Renegade, I'm talking about the more traditional Jeep design. By the way I don't like the Compass.

The patriot looks like to have an American breed (compare to Italian Renegade): square shape... the front grill is more like the Wrangler style. It's a mix of an old Cherokee and a wrangler! The interior also is Jeep spirit style.

The Renegade have nothing in common with Cherokee, Wrangler... It's just a small SUV with a 7 grill jeep front and badged Jeep.

Both are about the same price but I've bought the Renegade because it was the newest and the sales person told me that it will soon end their making.

Ummmm overall I like my Renegade but not much the exterior compare to the Patriot.

M'I the only one here? Never got a Patriot or Jeep before so don't know much about it.

Anyway my dream is a Wrangler and I'm already saving money for it.

I can't get into a Wrangler, it is too high. I tried at the dealers, just to have a sit and see what it's like. I would like a Grand Cherokee SRT, but unless I have a distant millionaire relative that I don't know about, I can't see me having one.

I love the Renegade and glad that we have it. Never had a Patriot, so I can't comment on that.

I like the patriots also what killed them the trail rated comes with a bad cvt. And they went cheap on interior trim. I don't see why so many kick there tires. There's tons of them still running. People forget there d&a. I don't want to be rude to anyone I'm looking to get some jeep products but. The renagade is from fix it again tony. It's been 3 years and be honest with everyone. The transmission suck look how many problems are posted on a new $30 grand SUV?. It's like lip stick on a pig. It's a fiat plain and simple. But when I was at the dealer Saturday the salesman said if you don't need a car wait. January or February the new patriots will be here. Totally different car on a stretch platform. Bigger than a renagade and smaller than than a Cherokee. He claims its to fill the voided area and tow around 3,500 pounds. And speaking of problems the other fourm is posting 4x4 lock out problems on units with 10 grand on the ticker. There trail hawk is not staying in 4 wheel lock and getting error ****s. I don't know I'm not a new world auto tec. I still like pre 1990 cars and trucks. But everyone has put bigger tires on there SUV. Not monsters but 2 sizes plus.
Just my 2 cents don't shoot me. But this SUV has been out long enuff to get some of there bugs out.

Sadly icuff your post is drivel. You make FIAT sound like some kind of 3rd world car manaufacturer. Thousands of rennys out there with no major probs, every vehicle has its fair share of issues. Unless you own a renny then fair play but to shoot off the cuff without real experience of ownership is frankly gibberish.

I saw this replacement for the Patriot and Compass from Carscoops not really a fan of its design. So no new patriot?

And the new Wrangler 2018 from Addicted to Jeeps, too Italian or European styling, awful:

You know the Renegade (the 1.4) has a near identical 4wd system to the Fiat Panda, which is world renowned for being amazing and capable of going near anywhere.

The 2.4 is a Chrysler/Mitsubishi "world" engine and not real sure where it's 4wd came from and they ruined it by being auto only.

Anyhow, back to the subject. I had a Compass for a few days.....kept thinking about driving it into a tree lol. Both it and the Patriot look like a 1995 Grand Cherokee, we had one growing up and I hate it personally.
