My last car was a 2014 Patriot, current car is a 2016 Renegade.

The Patriot had an automatic 6 speed and not the CVT that got such bad reviews. As far as how they look thats a matter of preference but quality wise the renegade feels like a better vehicle. I never had any mechanical issues with the Patriot but the interior felt cheap and had fit and finish issues. All in all the Renegade feels like more vehicle for the money.

I like the patriots also what killed them the trail rated comes with a bad cvt. And they went cheap on interior trim. I don't see why so many kick there tires. There's tons of them still running. People forget there d&a. I don't want to be rude to anyone I'm looking to get some jeep products but. The renagade is from fix it again tony. It's been 3 years and be honest with everyone. The transmission suck look how many problems are posted on a new $30 grand SUV?. It's like lip stick on a pig. It's a fiat plain and simple. But when I was at the dealer Saturday the salesman said if you don't need a car wait. January or February the new patriots will be here. Totally different car on a stretch platform. Bigger than a renagade and smaller than than a Cherokee. He claims its to fill the voided area and tow around 3,500 pounds. And speaking of problems the other fourm is posting 4x4 lock out problems on units with 10 grand on the ticker. There trail hawk is not staying in 4 wheel lock and getting error ****s. I don't know I'm not a new world auto tec. I still like pre 1990 cars and trucks. But everyone has put bigger tires on there SUV. Not monsters but 2 sizes plus.
Just my 2 cents don't shoot me. But this SUV has been out long enuff to get some of there bugs out.

Have you ever owned a new Fiat?? I have and the little 500 was a great little car. I was considering the Fiat 500X but went with the Renegade because of the anytime 4wheel drive since I live in Colorado. I don't take much stock in people reporting issues on this forum. If you go to any vehicle forum you hear all the same issues and complaints.

Me neither, but some do and assume nearly every vehicle will be affected by it, or at least if they buy one, then theirs will be afflicted with unreliability or issues.

1 - the transmission isn't fiat. It's in the rengade, the cherokee, the CRV fro north america, an acura sedan, etc. You aren't getting away form the more complex high number of gear transmissions. It will also be in the new compass. The patriot name is dead, I don't know why people pretend FCA didn't say that. It could be a totally new name, but they have said patriot is dead and implied compass stays.

2 - that bigger patriot replacement? That will be based on the same platform as the renegade. With the same transmission. And the same engine. And the same AWD system. We might be seeing the 2017 vehicles get teh replacement for the 2.4 tigershark across the board, but without more power, more weight, and more wheelbase, it probably won't be rated to tow any more.

3 - FCA's beta culture has been a probelm since before FCA was FCA, and is common DNA on both sides of the family tree.

4 - your summary, based on ignorance, is that you shoudn't buy renegades, because they aren't as cool or have as good of a transmission as one of the most disliked SUVs in recent history with a worse interior and a disliked transmission. and that you should wait if you are thinking of buying, because you can avoid the fiat DNA by buying the patriot replacement, which is going to be based on the same chassis and drive train as the renegade.

I'll just borrow Gene here, because he was awesome. Your conclusions and advice are not.

^ in regards to the Patriots reliability.. it shared a platform with the Caliber and the old Compass. If you’ll check your facts again you’ll see these three were riddled with a lot of issues and most were manufactured defects with no solution. My friends Caliber gets 18 mpg and sounds like it’s falling apart with only 90,000 miles. At least FCA is trying to be better than Daimler Chrysler and improving their vehicles. From what I’ve seen if the nine speed is truly this terrible why are multiple manufacturers using it? To be fair to the Patriot it was okay all things considered but let’s keep the rose colored glasses off.

Did a road trip in a Patriot:

San-Francisco -> Tahoe -> Death Valley -> Las Vegas -> Los Angeles

It was the last SUV remaining at Hertz.
It was the worst rental SUV I've ever had in the US.

Gutless, uncomfortable and did not inspire
confidence to go anywhere except paved roads
or graded gravel tracks.

And ugly as sin. Not in a cute way.
