I test drove them both and it's amazing how different their driving feel is. GM could learn a thing or two from Fiat on how to differentiate platform mates. I initially thought I would go for the Renegade on the simple fact that you could get more features with the manual tranny, specifically I wanted a sunroof/backup cam/fog lights/alloys and loved the MySky idea, whereas the 500X manual is only available in base trim, lacking even basic things like Bluetooth. 4 wheel drive was never a consideration for me as I simply don't need it. But when I drove the Renegade, I came away unimpressed. It felt slow off the line and very top heavy in turns. There was a lot of weight transfer when shifting gears that gave the impression the suspension was underdamped. The boxy styling is uniquely Jeep but I wasn't completely sold on it. The 500X was a totally different animal. It felt peppier off the line and the firmer suspension tune made it feel like a sporty car that just sits higher. It felt very European in how it drove. The body color dash piece and 2 tone seats also added some nice touches, giving it a brighter yet more luxurious feel. I also found the more elegant styling more appealing while still keeping a unique Fiat flavor. Because good handling is most important to me, the 500X ended up winning me over. I just wish they offered some options like Jeep does.

The 500X in 1.6 diesel form (manual) is actually very sporty, but when I got back into our Trailhawk I understood why we bought it - it feels solid, more surefooted and the cabin is very nice with loads of features as standard.

We have spent more time in the 500X, than the Renegade, Its OK, but I do NOT like that auto trans, and you can't get a 6spd manual and 4wd in the X, so Renegade it was.

Agreed. We got a 500x as a rental car. It was loaded with all the options and we really liked it. I went to the dealership to check it out and when I found out you couldn't get the manual with ANY options, so I crossed it off the list. They won't even put different wheels on the base model! Why bother even making a manual version of the 500x if it's only made in a version no one will buy? "See, no one bought the 6-speed, they must all want automatic". No! I just want a manual with alloy wheels and a sunroof!!!
Sorry...got carried away there....

Renegade is better simply because they offer more trim levels with stick:)

4wd manual Trekking was my hopes, but FCA refuses to offer it....so, I bought the Renegade and I don't regret it in the slightest. I would feel bad for scratching an X, as they do look nice. The Renegade tho, ****....my fishing rig, hunting truck, haul things just because I can rig, wife's dd, and whatever else I can come up with.

Plus I can go to Jeep club meetings and do off roading stuff now and not be upset if it gets scratched. Yay for 4x4 or as Jeep says, 4xForever

Wanted a 4wd manual Trekking plus ourselves. LOL. Thats the main reason we went tan, makes it harder to see scratches and dings. Plus I was so sick of silver or blue.

This post is weird for me because these were my 2 final vehicle choices . Liked them both but in the end , living in Colorado, I decided on the Renegade. I want to be the one to push it into 4 wheel drive not the vehicle computer.
Definitely. I too would like to push it into 4WD rather than a computer. If I had a 4WD that is.

It comes down to styling and where you live between these two. The Renegade is geared more for light off-roading and that’s apparent in the ground clearance, the front skid plate, and the trailhawk trim. The 500x is tuned for highway driving with the confidence of awd. I loved them both but ultimately I do more dirt driving than city driving. Also, the Renegade looks way more natural covered in dirt than the 500x.
