Such as when driving under bridges, in tunnels, etc? Normal. If you are driving out in the open, that's abnormal.
my signal does drop slightly more then it used to in my Ford Fusion, but only when there is significant tree cover. I suspect if you were in a built up area it might also go out a bit. Whenever mine drops it is normally for only a couple of seconds or less

Same happens to me. I will be asking dealer when I take it in for an oil change.
sometimes when semi trucks are around me in traffic it happens. that's all I can think it is

That's one reason I dislike satellite radio. When I do try to listen to it, the signal doesn't drop out all that often, but it will if there are tall buildings around.

jvlsgunns,

This could be due to a line of sight issue.
Essentially the signal doesn't have a straight shot to the satellite and this obstruction is causing the signal to cut out.
Best to monitor the condition and see if there are any other factors through your observations.

I've noticed this also and it's not just when I go under bridges or drive next to semi trucks, etc... even on a clear day it's in and out sometimes. The best reception I had was for about 2 hours up in the middle of nowhere Texas... not so great here in the city though. :/

satellite radio and tall objects don't mix very well. Well at least XM. Sirius' satellites are in a moving orbit where at least one is directly overhead most of the day. Maybe the renegades are working off the XM satellites, which IIRC means the further south you are, the closer to the horizon the xm satellite array gets, the easier it is for tall things to block the signal. I'm in NJ, close to the uplinks to both arrays. I get good signal that only goes out under heavy tree cover, overpasses, and really bad cloud cover.

I got in my trail hawk this morning and went to turn on satellite radio and it wouldn't find a signal at all. It's says contact dealer on the screen
We had the same issue. If you register with Sirius you can send a refresh signal. It seemed to help a lot.

mada,

This may be an issue with receiving the signal to the vehicle.
Keep us posted on the resolution, this info. would be helpful for the others in the community.

oddly, when we drive around a nearby reservoir. this is in a '14 cherokee.
Jeep uses the XM based radio. I previously had a Ford that used a Sirius based radio and it didn't drop out nearly as much. I don't think that the dealer will be able to help much with the issues, it is just the reality of the different satellites. I also have a Mazda 3 and it has a XM based radio. I didn't even wait till the free trial was up before I put a Sirius plug & play radio in it because the XM reception is so poor around where I live (damned mountains).
I just listen to the FM (and AM) stations or the music on my fingernail drive (can't call it a thumb drive since it's so small. ;))
There'sa spot on I-15 out in Eastvale, CA that's right by the Limonite exit that always looses the signal. Nothing around but fields and a couple strip malls. No tall structures or geography. Same place every time. Makes me think it's susceptible to interference.

The only time I notice drop-out is when there are trees or other objects obstructing the sky. It doesn't happen enough to be an annoyance to me.
looses signal all the time, short burst but very annoying
that is exactly where i loose it on the way back from work I live in rancho cucamonga
