After only 500 miles, I took my renegade home from class via the rutted dirt roads I used to take when I had a wrangler. It handled well, though the suspension was extremely loud over certain large potholes. After a few hour at home, I got in my TH to drive back, and immediately the "Service 4WD" alert popped up in my dashboard. I then shut the car off for 5-10 minutes, came back, turned the car on and it was gone. I haven't seen it since, and it's been almost a week now.

My question is, has anyone else run into a similar issue after off roading or driving on surfaces that force the vehicle to go into 4x4 mode?

At about 300 miles I turned it on and the service 4wd came on. I turned the Trailhawk off. Turned it on and the message didnt read. A day or 2 later it happened again. Now it stays on and no 4wd. Took it to the dealership and they'll have to keep it 4-5 days. Ill try to come back and notify yall what happens.
The dealership gave us use of a brand new Cherokee while the Renegade is being looked at.

I think I will check all accessible connections under the dash to be sure they are tightly fitted.

Yep, happened to me at about 1,200 miles. Drove from Pgh to Niagara Falls. Pulled out quickly and spun the tires. Immediately afterwards, 'Service 4WD' light was on. Parked, shut if off, and the light was off when I re-started it. I'm at about 1,400 and it hasn't happened again yet.

Mine came on last night, I the engine off and back on and it went away. We have just over 2,000 miles on it at this point. If it comes back on again I'll take it in. I'll keep checking this post to see what happens with other people having this problem.

This happened to me the other day. Just turned the car on and there it was. I restarted and it was gone :( Between my earlier issue (transmission coolant line falling off) and a small stream of one off things like this and now the CEO talking about software issues I just don't have a lot of confidence in the car, despite how much I like it.

Just a quick post to say I just got the svc 4wd light. 4wd unavailable light in my trailhawk as well.
I'm at about 1200 miles.
I have a service appointment on Friday, but was told they can only look into the issue if the light is currently on.
Does anybody know why modern cars don't store error codes? With the amount of digital processing involved in a modern day automobile, combined with the availability of small, cheap, long term storage, you'd think a modern automobile would store every error code the system produced.

This service code is probably the one the CEO is bent about and what they are working on.

Your dealer is not telling the truth. Per OBD2 standard, codes are stored regardless of the light being on or not. Every fault that is tripped are stored until cleared or reset. Some codes are not show when scanned with generic scanners.
