Take the neg cable off battery

Why do you think the jeep has a Quick Connect on battery? It is a COMPUTER! Needs a REBOOT Once and a while. Think People!

My service passive entry light was on , The Jeep service manager told me to bring it in to get it corrected.. So instead,I did what bluesman suggested.. It works!...The best part is that I didn't even have to think!

I just bought a 2017 in march and the same thing happened this morning. took it to Dealer and while I was at the dealership my key fob was in the seat of the running car but on the dash it said "Key is not in car" dealership called me and said it was the Wireless ignition hub and my car will be fixed tomorrow. we will see what happens
Issue Resolved

2016 Renegade Limited with 2600 miles.
Showed "Service Passive Entry Soon" but passive entry still worked.
Switched to other key fob and problem went a way for the afternoon but returned.
Took it to dealer and they updated software (took 4 hours to download from "slow Fiat-Chrysler computers".
Problem completely resolved (even after several weeks of driving)...
passive entry icon lit

Had my passive entry system service light come on today. So.......

I pushed the button to start the car but not start it to run (push button without pushing brake) and it's like the car reset itself. the light and error are gone.

So, I tried above procedure from another forum member and it worked. Obviously some type of reboot. Did not need to disconnect battery, just followed his instructions.

So, just to let anyone know if this happens to your car what I did to fix mine. I was getting the light on my dash of a key shown in the previous post. Plus, I was getting an error that said, "service passive entry system". When I called Jeep, they had not seen that yet and asked me to bring it in. My appointment isnt until next week. I replaced the battery in my key fob even though the vehicle is 2 months old. The light and error were still there. later I went back to my car and the light and error was still there so I pushed the button to just to turn the car on but not start it to run (push button without pushing brake) and it's like the car reset itself. the light and error are gone. I will keep an eye on it of course but just wanted to let anyone know who experiences this problem what worked for me. It's not anywhere in the manual.
This definitely works... I had to do this once before and just had to do it again. Thanks for the reminder on how to "simply" reboot the car. Last time, I had an appointment scheduled and read this online and it saved me a trip to the dealer. Not sure what triggers it, but last night I left my coat in the car that had the key fab in it... perhaps it's a security issue?? Thanks again!!
There is a hero on this thread somewhere....

who said. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL AND LET IT SIT FOR 15 MINUTES. That did it. This got so bad for me that none of the door locks were working and I was having to old school it. Did this and the whole thing is better. It's a computer. Reboot it.

I have a 2015 Jeep Renegade. This light just came on. Dealer wanted to charge me to do a test. They thought it was a bad key fob but I knew that wasn't the case since this was happening with both my key fobs. I did try pushing the start button (without the brake) and that did NOT work for me. I then tried disconnecting the Negative Battery Terminal and let it sit for 30 mins and it worked like a charm! So thanks for this.

My people.,o great people of the gade i have answers., when this wifi key symbol pops up with me and from previous answers its the battery in fob low on my behalf anyway.,i got a 2017 latitude and having it new just this finally popped up.,albeit i use the pssive entry and remote start mostly all day and everyday primarily.,so i tried the push button not start and still had the message.,i realized the other key was in my coat pocket in house(12 feet away)still registering a frequency basically with the jeeps onboard computer so like anyone i used me gramas basting pot with a lid(metal pot) and braight it to my room 30 feet from jeep went out with other fob in hand and pushed to turn car on not run and its registered that key as primary and rocked like champ yall.,love ya
Got the service passive entry system message today just as I was leaving the dealership. They investigated its they didnt know anything about it either. I have an appt on Wednesday as they called and stated there is an update out for it. I have 4900 miles on it.
I took the disconnect battery advice for 15 minutes, and it reset it! Wohoo!

Hi all,

Although I found the posting a little patronising, the method of disconnecting the battery, e.g. rebooting your cars computer worked for me.

There is even a quick disconnect feature on the battery

My 2017 Renegade Desert Hawk started flashing the “Service Passive Entry System” indicator about a week ago. I was going to bring it in to the dealership tomorrow on my day off, but I am glad I checked here first. I tried swapping key FOBs - that didn’t work. I tried pushing the start button without pushing on the brake - that didn’t work for me either. What did work, however, was disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes. After I did that, I reconnected the terminal, started the car, and the annoying indicator was gone. Thanks for the tip, folks!

Thanks for the tip.
I have a 2018 Jeep Renegade with 20,000 on it and it popped up with the key and service passive entry code. All I did was turn on car without pressing brake and it fixed the issue
