Have a new Renegade and have this indication. A picture of fab and message: "Service Passive Entry System"

has anyone experienced this and the dealer resolving this? What was involved? Did they fix it? Did they keep the car to repair etc...

Thanks any info will be helpful.

I have taken all my car keys from a variety of vehicles into the local hardware shop to have the batteries replaced. It has never yet failed.

The worst that your Autozone can tell you is, "Sorry, we don't do that" Try it see ;):D

My service passive entry light was on , The Jeep service manager told me to bring it in to get it corrected.. So instead,I did what bluesman suggested.. It works!...The best part is that I didn't even have to think!
We just had the same issue with my wifes 19 Renegade, did the same thing and the light & error message are gone, Thank you for the advice, If if happens again will take it to the dealer.

Welcome Sandy it's a great first post that sings the praises of the forum members (y)
Problems with Passive Entry System

I was loving my new Jeep Renegade that I purchase in March until this week. I got a "service passsive entry system" message along with a yellow light warning. The dealership has had my car since Monday and this is Friday and they still cannot fix my car. Anyone had this problem and had their dealership fix it.
Did you ever get it fixed
The reason ‘passive key light’ comes in is because your key isn’t making good connection to the key fob. Remove the key for 60 seconds and then replace. If your battery is good in the fob, the light should go away when you start your renegade. If it doesn’t go out, replace the battery. I dropped my key fob and the silver key didn’t fall out but it wasn’t clicked all the way in. Took it out like my Jeep dealer said and it worked perfect! Light is gone! Since I had it out I replaced my battery anyway - I mean it can’t hurt! Hope it helps!!

I had the same problem, and I was very reluctant to take it to the dealer. I just got my Renegade back after 7 WEEKS for a problem with the front blinkers burning out CONSTANTLY, and those service lights popping up all of the time. I tried the soft restart -- push the start button, but not the brake. That didn't work. But I had my husband do the other solution -- disconnect the negative battery connector and leave it off for 30 minutes. IT WORKED! Service Passive Entry System light went out. Thank you to the user who recommended this. And even though I've had a couple problems, I still love my Renegade. Good luck to you!
After replacing my key fob's battery, I find myself facing the same problem you all are facing. My Renegade's warrantee just expired, so when I called a local dealer, the service department told me it would be between $90 and $180 to fix the problem (Passive Entry System). I called Jeep USA customer service regarding this problem (877-426-5337). Unfortunately, all the representative could say was that they would contact Jeep USA to see if they would extend the warrantee. I believe the problem is more wide spread than noted online. I hope you, the reader, call Jeep USA and report the issue. If enough people call about it, maybe Jeep will have to do something about it.

I unhooked the negative connection to my battery for 30 minutes, and that rectified the problem. I cannot tell whether this will fix the issue permanently but for now . . . I'm keep my fingers crossed.

@Zgflash, It is so lovely to see people have read the forum and are now able to pass on important tips like you did. Keep up the good work and thank you. (y)(y)(y)
So, just to let anyone know if this happens to your car what I did to fix mine. I was getting the light on my dash of a key shown in the previous post. Plus, I was getting an error that said, "service passive entry system". When I called Jeep, they had not seen that yet and asked me to bring it in. My appointment isnt until next week. I replaced the battery in my key fob even though the vehicle is 2 months old. The light and error were still there. later I went back to my car and the light and error was still there so I pushed the button to just to turn the car on but not start it to run (push button without pushing brake) and it's like the car reset itself. the light and error are gone. I will keep an eye on it of course but just wanted to let anyone know who experiences this problem what worked for me. It's not anywhere in the manual.
I tried this and it did not reset mine😟! just letting others know it may not work for everyone but glad it worked for you!!
Our 2020 Trailhawk has been in the shop since monday (3 days so far) and they are stumped as to what is causing it. We have tried all the listed remedies (fuse 15, Battery disconnect; new key fob battery; etc.) and nothing sticks. I have started an escalated case with Chrysler now to get a specialist involved to see if they can figure it out. We need our Renegade back, can't do without it! No loaner or rental offered as of yet either. Ugh. We had our 2016 for 4 years never encountering this issue.
Had this issues come on this afternoon as I was driving, I changed the battery in the key fob and did the press the button thing without pressing the brake, this did not fix mine, I did notice there was a little bit of condensation on the battery, the key had been in the air conditioned living room all day so no idea where the condensation would have come from?
Tried taking negative battery terminal off and letting it sit for about 40 minutes this also did not work, took my spare key out and tried that one and there was no issues. So was it the condensation on the battery causing the issue?

Anyhow I have the 1st key fob sitting in rice right now, gonna get some 99% alcohol and give it a good clean then dry it out, see what happens with the key after.

Just stared getting this error today. Took the physical key our of the fob, blew it out for good measure, waited for a few minutes, then firmly reinserted the key into the fob. When I started the Jeep, the error light was gone.

Thanks for the tip!

Was your problem resolved because I have the same issue?
I had this issue and I took it to the dealership they said it need an update and charge me 80 bucks. Since when to we pay for updates.
I have a 2017 TH with 14,000 mi. The Service Passive Entry System message popped up along with the WiFi key symbol. I tried all the suggestions short of disconnecting the battery. Door sensors, exterior lock buttons, key fobs, remote starter. Everything still seems to work fine. So I'm going to do the same thing I'm doing about all the other nuisance issues with this truck. I'm going to ignore it, and keep my fingers crossed that the next quality control annoyance that pops up doesn't actually disable the vehicle. I knew I should have bought the Hyundai. I have a half wrecked 25 year old Cherokee XJ laying in my driveway with 225,000 miles on it. It doesn't have half the issues this Fiat built crap has.
After reading all the entries I tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes and it seems to have worked! Plus I found out that mine can easily be disconnected without the use of any tools by pressing the little gray button on the black plastic casing. Here my neighbor was trying to unscrew the connection with his wrench which was difficult because the tube for the windshield washer solution was in the way. Thank you for the suggestion and saving me money by not having to take it to the dealership. I had mentioned it to my technician when I went to get an oil change and he said I would have to do a separate appointment.

Same here. The only thing that solved it was disconnecting the battery. I didn't wait that long though. I just disconnected and immediately reconnected.

Same here. Battery disconnect for 10 minutes resolved the "Service Passive Key Entry System" caution on my 2018 Jeep Renegade. Dealer wanted the car for diagnostics, couldn't take it for another two weeks, told me once I dropped it off on a Wednesday morning, they likely wouldn't even call me back until the following Monday, because they had "so many cars in the diagnostic queue" ahead of me. They also sounded clueless about the problem when I stopped by to just get them to pull the maintenance alert codes for me before I left on a car trip (I wanted to make sure nothing more nefarious was going on, and they said they would do that for me). I am wildly under-impressed by the local Jeep Service department.
