I just test drove the 6spd, planning to get a manual 4x4 soon.

However, I find the knob to be very unyieldly. It's huge, I'm used to shifting gripping from the side but the knob is too big to comfortable hold. I have to palm it from the top to shift, it's just kinda weird especially coming from manual sports car.

Does any know if the knob can be changed out and if there's official accessories for this?

Haven't seen anything yet, but I'm sure there will probably be something soon. Might be some cross platform compatibility too, but I don't know for sure, new to FCA. I more so am waiting for a short throw shifter. I find I have to palm it on top just because the armrest isn't in the most ideal location. Coming from a BRZ the shift throw on this is way longer. Although it is a very good shifter, one of the best I've had in a truck so far. Very smooth and precise.

I totally agree. Just picked mine up tonight. Shifts nice and smooth, but the knob is too big and plasticky (if that's even a word). Will keep an eye out for an alternative that's easy to retro fit.
Yeah that arm rest is not in the best position, just something else to get used to.

I've got a 6-speed Latitude for a weekend test drive. Coming from a 2005 Sentra SE-R Spec V, I find the shifter to be much nicer, with shorter, smoother throws. The knob size and the placement of the arm rest are great for me personally. I can work the shifter through every gear without lifting my elbow from the armrest. I'm used to grasping the shifter from the top, though.

Usually shift knobs can easily be replaced with aftermarket knobs. For example, Momo makes knobs. Just unscrew the knob and measure the thread diameter and count the threads. The thread size is all you need to know when shopping for a new knob.

MT. If I can just thread a new one on then that's great. Now, it's just a matter of finding decent replacements. A good leather know would work. A metal ball with the shift pattern etched into the top like the plastic stock one would be good too.

Fyi this is exactly the same knob used in the alfa romeo gulietta QV (quattrofolio verde) 1750cc, 240bhp which is a fantastic sports car. Not sure why you don't find it to be sporty. I personally love it.

I can understand coming from a car shifting like a pistol grip. Different strokes for different folks. I like the knob, it fits my palm nicely. But I'm sure someone will chime in asking if a Hurst T-handle will fit, which is very awkward to shift a manual with.

I'd be interested to see what you end up with.

Not just you. I have a Renegade on the way and I'm looking for a shift knob that's more along the lines of the knob on my current Liberty.

I think it's a little bulky, but my real problem with it is that the material is really cold on my hand. I'm looking for something leather, hopefully.

It's a good shift knob because it's in the performance version of Alfa's family car? Or, was that sarcasm? In any case, glad you like it. That's convenient.

I hate it. It's easily the thing I hate the most about the Renegade. It feels noticeably cheap at all times while driving. The annoying "equator" has a sharp edge. It would be good if it was heavier. It must go.

Hi, Keeper, do you have a different shift knob to us?
Mine feels like a quality piece of aluminium - it is perfectly round without any 'casting' edges, and from where I sit is perfectly placed for the palm of the hand. It really feels like a quality item.
I do understand that a ball type knob isn't good if you prefer to hold the gear lever on its shaft, but I only do this when I am sat low with a high mounted lever e.g. In a sports car.
The only 'niggle' I have is that being solid metal it is cold first thing in the morning, but having had a Ford Puma I got used to that.

It's possible. I can get a pic when I'm out later.

A ball would be fine. Leather or metal. I'm just wondering if people have changed them and what they've found that they like.

If it were just a smooth ball of AL the same shape and size that would be fine, too.
