Hi guys!

i have a 2021 jeep renegade trailhawk

today i started it up and the low battery came on

and i drover around and it finally went.

it was showing 11.4v while i was driving.

but finally later it went back to 14 volts

then i started it up after my stop and it was 13.2 at start and went to 14.

just checked it to night and started it was 12.4 and went to 14 now after starting it.

soooo do u think i need a new battery?

i always turn off the start stop every time i start the car i push the button to turn it off.

i dont use that feature.

could my battery be dying after 2 years?

the low battery light went away.

kinda confused.

thanks

Go have your battery tested. The alternator handles all the electrical load while your Jeep's running. If the battery is going bad it might be drawing a lot of current after starting to try and charge which may pull down the system voltage. Any auto parts store or even a Walmart with a car care center can check the battery with a load tester. And yes, a battery can die after a few years, I've had it happen.

Yes! I bet your battery is getting ready to go. Go to the dealer and have them check it out.

Mine did that also but after 5 years, get the battery checked might have a bad cell
tnx for all the feedback

hmmm maybe ill skip the checks and just put in an optima yellow top DH6

my car is only a 2021 with 13k miles hmmm kinda prematuire for a battery

what type of battery terminals does a 2021 jeep renegade trailhawk use?

is it top post or those special SAE ones?

has anyone put in an optima yellow top battery?

does it fit good and are the posts right

tnx

Optimas usually are a good fit. The DH6 is a top post.

well the optima install should be fun stuf for an hour on a weekend.

maybe its a bad valve hmmm

The OEM warranty is not free you pay for that when you buy the car it is included in the purchase price.

I've also got got a 2021 Trailhawk. Haven't had any obvious battery issues, but the Auto Stop/Start wasn't working right after about nine months. (I do try to disable it everytime I think about it, but I hate it when something's not working.)

Reported it to the dealer when i went in for my first free oil change. They tested the OEM Mopar EFB battery...

...apparently found it to be bad, and replaced it with a DieHard AGM battery:

That seemed to fix the Auto Stop/Start problem.

I'm seeing that newer Renegades are now coming with Mopar AGM batteries. So maybe there was something not-quite-right with the Mopar EFB battery...

thanks for the pics!!! great post!!! :)

glad that solved the issue

so are you saying the dealer installed a diehard battery lol :D

or they told u it was bad and u installed it yourself :D

i used to like the diehard when it was at sears but now i was a bit dubious.

i always bought the biggest one for my heat soaked 76 corvette :D with jet coated headers too :p

the diehard gold always did a decent job in my corvette

Yeah, the Jeep dealer installed it. That was a year ago. I was surprised too.

I assume they figured (or were told by Jeep) that it needed to now be an AGM battery, and Mopar didn't have those in the pipeline yet.

But now they apparently do, and that seems to be be what new Renegades are equipped with.

Well, remember that there are only about two or three battery manufacturers in the U.S. -- making all those different brands.

I was also having an issue with the auto stop/start not working. It kept telling me it was charging the battery. 2 trips to the dealer but they finally replaced the battery for free. The one they put in mine was a Mopar AGM type. There are other threads here about battery issues. It definitely sounds like they are using AGM type batteries as replacements. I would suggest going to the dealer first- a free AGM battery beats buying one.
