Or have you figured it out already?

And, yes, from that 10280A listing, it does look like the tubes are specific to the 1.4T engine...
Nope, not figured it out yet. My plan is to order the new tubes in a week or so and then once I've got them I'll figure it out with them in hand.
Hopefully!!

I'm serious. Well, half-serious.

It's a tool. And it may be "suitable"...
I've sussed it!!!

There's a hex on the top of the tube.

Here's one of my cyilders with coil + plug removed. Look closely at the top edge of the tube and you can see the hex slots. Current plan is to measure it and get an appropriately sized box spanner. Remove tubes, re-seal and install. Saves about £50-70 doing it this way after buying a tool and high temp oil proof sealant.

We Yanks don't use it at all, but I love that word. Always reminds me of Rod Stewart's "I Was Only Joking:"

Me and the boys thought we had it sussed
Valentinos all of us
My dad said we looked ridiculous
But boy, we broke some hearts

So the insides of those tubes have a female hex surface?

So a "box spanner"...

..looks a lot like the "suitable tool" that Jeep recommends.

I put "box spanner" in quotes, because I'm not really familiar with that particular tool -- we don't use that term either. How would it work? Looks like the right end would fit inside the tube, and the left end would be...driven with a ratchet handle...? Except that left end looks like it it's a female hex, and ratchets have square drives...

We understand a "spanner" (to use your term) to be something like this:

Except we'd call that an "open-end wrench..." Go figure...

@Marek K Yeah it seems like there's female hex at the top of the tube. Box spaners are kinda old school I think. They'd have been part of your "breakdown kit" in an old car here to pop your lug nuts/bolts off. I too wouldn't call them a "spanner" but aparently that's what they are!

In theory these are often driven by a little bar that slides through. The other solution which I'll probably do is actually put a socket over the other end with my ratchet on that. So Tube > Box Spanner > Socket > Ratchet. In theory.

Yeah, I think open-end wrenches or box spanners are kind of limited in their use these days. Most of the time I use a ratcheting socket wrench.

But there are times when only an open-end wrench will reach a nut or bolt, when there's limited clearance above it. I definitely keep a set in all our vehicles, along with a socket set.

So what does the general term "spanner" mean to you guys? Seems like the word can mean all sorts of different tools...
