Squeaks and rattles

16118 Views 35 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  IHATEMYJEEP76
My Renny has two rattles/squeaks that are starting to be really annoying:

1. The big box behind the interior mirror squeaks loudly, especially when the weather is hot.
2. Something inside the driver side B-pillar around where the seat belt is attached, rattles in a high-pitched note like there's no tomorrow.

The only remedy so far has been to play music to block out the noise. I will however ask the dealer to take a look at it.

Ps: I first posted this as an answer in a thread under the UK section of the forum, but then decided that squeaks and rattles really deserved a thread of its own in the problems section of the forum.

Thanks for posting squeaks and rattles!

I got my Renegade Limited on 5/5/2015 and, on top of the really annoying break squeaks, my left passenger seat does not lock into the assembly and that rattles as well.

I've tried turning up the radio, but I'm sick that a brand new car is expiring these kinds of issues. Not good.
Two issues have developed:
- Passenger rear door rattles or squeaks when driving. Can push on the trim panel and it stops. Release and it cones back.
- Rear exhaust tail pipe rattles pretty loud with vibration when in reverse with the brake on at idle.

I'll have the dealership look at upon the next visit if I can't solve.

(Sigh) No... nothing major, but what a pain in the butt and annoying.
Same to me . I believe there is something moving in the black box behind the mirror.
Same to me . I can find what is going on . Anybody knows how to remove the black box cover ?
I've found mine. Over black box and between the box and the map lamps there is a plug without protective foam. I pulled it out from the front above the mirror , put a little protective foam and everything stops.

Resurrection of an old thread here -

I just booked my Rene in to have a plastic on plastic knock noise investigated from the passenger side -top of the dash near the speaker....

..... and the same day I make the call and book it in the noise stops!
That is usually the case, so sayeth the law of sod

The rattle I had came from the arm rest. When the arm rest was extended everything was fine. Once the arm rest was pushed in it rattled, amazingly it took me a week to track it down as it sounded as though it was coming from the passenger door.

Don't cancel your booking, as soon as you do the noise will come back .

Umm interesting - that sounds just like my issue! Will investigate further
Slight ticking noise comes and goes on the passenger side dashboard speaker area. Same thing with the ever so slightly annoying "tick" noise from the driver's side column seat belt harness side.
Anyone have issues with the MySky making noises? It's never leaked but it makes a creaky noise, especially when turning or any twist to the car.

26K miles so far, and I still love it like the first day.

I too have the squeak from the driver door, and lately a wind whistle at freeway speeds. Most annoying is the "clunk" noise from the driver side B pillar when braking quickly. Something is shifting around in there and always has.
Amazing how these Renegades reveal their true secrets over time, i.e., the most annoying ones.
I don't know if the annoyances are age or mileage related, but I don't have any squeaks, rattles or anything untoward. Almost a year old and over 7.5k miles.
Congrats, kevinfourlegs! I don't drive with music or ventilation fans blowing when I can afford it. I listen everyday I drive this Jeep to anything out of the ordinary. Just over 5K miles. 2015 Latitude auto 4x4. Just happy all is well in your world.
