Anyone have any experience with the renegade stalling out? All of a sudden my 2016 Rene will say “not in park” on the dash then just dies out of no where. Any ideas of what it could be? The dealership wants $200 to “look” into it, because it’s just out of 3 year warranty even though it has 33,000 miles. But with the holidays I just cant do it yet. I’m trying not to drive it, but I have to get to work. ?‍♀

W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum.

First, I would get the battery load tested. any auto part store should be able to do this fr you free of charge (with the hopes that you might need to purchase one of their batteries).

Our Renegades have 2 main computer systems and 40-ish computer modules. The Battery and charging system is a crucial part of the total operating system. If the battery is starting to fail on our computer controlled vehicles, strange things happen.

Vehicle batteries typically only last 3 to 5 years anyways. Yours is probably just due to be replaced. The battery is probably going to run around $150.00-ish, but it is going to be cheaper than going to the dealer and paying $200.00 for diagnostics, just to find out that you have a worn battery (plus the cost of a battery from the dealer, at dealer prices). lol
*Some auto part stores will even replace the battery for you at no charge, if you buy it from them.

IF the battery passes the load test; I would then ask the dealer for a one time courtesy warranty repair, since the vehicle is just past the 3 year mark and under the 36000 mile warranty.

I had the battery tested. They said it’s brand new. I’m going to have to go to the dealer. When I had the battery tested the mechanic says it looks like a computer problem, but there is no recalls. My car keeps dying even when I’m on the highway, and this is very disturbing.

And Dangerous. I had a Body Control Module (BCM) fail. My Jeep just died while driving on the highway, and never recovered. I had to tow it to the dealer. It was covered under my MaxCare extended warranty.
