This was one of the worse dealership sales experience I've ever had. I was in the market for a Jeep Renegade. I made an online inquiry for a 2017 Jeep Renegade Desert Hawk that they had in their inventory. I spoke with their internet sales guy letting him know that I was interested in that particular vehicle. I explained to him that I liked the pricing and asked him emailed me an official quote on a worksheet with the out-the-door price, including any tax and license fees to me so I can just drive out to them and sign the contract the following day. I explained to him on the phone several times that I prefer to get the final price agreed upon first over the phone or via email before I will make the trip out to them. All the time I spent with him on the phone, I never even haggled or bargained with him on the advertised sale price. I was about to buy a vehicle from him without even seeing it in person nor test driving it. I've already done all my research prior to all of this and have test driven the same vehicle at another dealership before. I waited until almost the end of the work day and I still haven't received any official final price breakdown on a worksheet in the email.

...get your popcorn ready for what happens next

He finally calls me back again in the early evening and asked when I can come to them and sign the contract. I told him I'm not going to waste my time to drive out to them without seeing an itemized worksheet first. He then finally proceeded to give me the breakdown over the phone (red flag went up at this point). He reiterated to me the net price that was listed on their website, taxes, licensing fees, doc. fees, and finally a Pro Package fee for $995. I stopped him and asked what the hell is a Pro Package?? I never agreed to add that to the vehicle nor was it ever mentioned to me during our past few conversations. He explained to me the Pro Package consisted of "wheel locks, cleardoor edge guards, exterior xzylon (a fancy name for "paint protection", which in turn is a simple wax/sealant and Nitrogen in the tires (LMAO)". He then proceeded to sell me how great this "paint protection" is, "water and dirt will just roll off the paint!". I almost started laughing at him over the phone. I finally had to stop him from talking about this. I told him I'm not paying for this Pro Package. He says to me that this Pro Package has already been done to all the vehicles on their lot and they can't remove the "paint protection". At this point, I couldn't believe what I was hearing from this guy, who at first, I thought were on the same page as I. He says this Pro Package was mandatory on all of the cars they sell. I've never heard of any mandatory dealer installed accessories before from any dealerships. From my experience of buying new cars in the past, any dealer installed accessories are always optional. I understand almost all dealers will try and make some extra profits on the back end by selling extended warranties, Lojack, pre-paid maintenance, "paint protection" (again, don't ever buy this), cloth protection (another waste of $$$), etc. So when he told me about their mandatory Pro Package add-on at the last minute as I was ready to let him know I'll be at the dealership the next morning to sign the contract, I finally couldn't keep my cool. I said to him there is no way I'm paying for this add-on, especially when it was never disclosed to me previously or was it ever mentioned on their website listing for this vehicle. At this point, he sort of admitted to me that's how the dealership make up for some of the discounts they are offering. Let's just say I was stupid enough to pay for this add-on, how do I know that the "paint protection" was even applied onto the Jeep? How can I check if the tires are inflated with nitrogen? How much are wheel locks and cleardoor edge guards? $20 tops? I know why this dealer chose to tack on this BS add-on to their sales, half of these things are intangible. No one will be able to verify whether or not it was even done to the Jeep in the first place. I told him I was ready to walk out on the deal if he doesn't take this extra $995 off. I can easily just custom order a vehicle from the factory and not pay this dealer add-on fee. He told me he didn't want to lose me as a customer and will talk to his GM about removing this fee. He calls me back the next morning and said they can't remove the $995 AND someone else is interested in the same vehicle that evening. And if I want the vehicle, I should go down there before the next guy. Really? that's how they're going to play this? It's really too bad some dealers like this one has to be so dishonest, not forthcoming, and pull a bait-n-switch on someone who was ready to buy the the vehicle on the spot. They lost a sale that was going to be one of easiest ever. I rather give my money to some other dealer who is more forthcoming even if I end up paying a little more.

SMH... unfortunately not surprised, especially in our area. In my experience, I gave up on the random lottery of "internet sales" people and went in to a few of our dealerships numerous times. Even handling everything in person and on paper, expect some arm wrestling on delivery.

That "pro package" (which also goes by other various shady names) did not get installed because I had ordered my Renegade and picked it up the day after it was delivered. They had just put the sticker on the window for this "package" which consisted of a bunch of extra crap for $1K, but I got there before they could even start the actual process.

Wow! That's awful! I've never even heard of a "Pro Package!" I had a good experience. Not only did I get the Jeep I wanted, but the salesman seems to have added himself for free! LOL Let's just say that, 4 weeks later, he's still texting me daily and has gone from asking me how I'm liking my Jeep to how and what I'm doing! Now that's dedication to your work! LOL

I hope you're able to find exactly what you want somewhere else at a decent price and without having to wait forever for it!

Write reviews everywhere on this dealer!
http://www.dealerrater.com/

The previously mentioned google.
I see you posted this review on yelp. Good for you!

I had an experience with a local mega dealer in Pittsburgh, Cochran Nissan. The advertised a $169 lease on a Sentra. I was helping my son look for a car, and this was a good solution. I called and simply asked which of the sentras in stock were available for that price, and would he please email me copies of the window sticker so my son could choose one. Over the course of several days, emails and phone calls, all i could get out of Cochran was "you have to come in, you have to come in, you have to come in.
I got so disgusted i called a competitor of theirs and asked them if they would meet the price on the cochran website. The sal;es manager said he would. I asked him which of his cars qualified, and he gave me the list of stock numbers, including several that were the next model up(SR Vs SV) There was one that was a bit more expensive due to the fact it had factory Navigation. I asked if we could get that one for the $169 lease price and he agreed.
I had my son call him with all of his information to get the paperwork started. 2 days later we drove there and picked up his new car.
I called and emailed Cochran and told them how they lost such an easy sale. They didnt respond, i doubt they cared.

A little update for you guys.

The GM of that dealership called me the day after my Yelp review went live. He wanted to see if there's anything he can do to keep me happy. Basically, he wants me to delete my review. He asked what can he do. I told him it was a little too late for that. In hindsight, I'm glad things ended the way it did. Imagine what kind of BS and headache I would have to deal later on if bought my jeep from them. Anyway, I was really cordial with him on the phone and reiterate that he and his sales person F'd up big time by trying this nonsense pressure sales tactic on someone who is more knowledgable on these sales games. They might've gotten away (I'm sure more often than not) with someone less informed about these useless addons. Unfortunately, that is probably the bulk of their business. At one point, he even said to me I probably felt they pulled a bait & switch because I didn't get the price I wanted. Is this guy really that stupid? Even after that, he still tried to sell the renegade to me but instead of charging me $995, he'll only charge me $300. The balls on this guy!! By the end of our call, he realized there was nothing he can do or say to me to change my mind or the review. I kept my cool with him throughout because I knew he was grasping for anything at that point. I just told him I need to hang up and get back to work.

I will probably write up something on dealerrater and Google reviews as well.

Off-topic, but my son is in Pittsburgh as well, working on his PhD at Carnegie Mellon. I'm about 90 minutes south of there, just over the state line. :)

The local Hyundai dealer was pulling that sh!t on us when we were dealing on a Sante Fe. Walked out. Then we came across the Renegade and couldn't be more happy with the decision. The Jeep dealer treated us like gold, bargained with us, threw in some extra stuff, filled up the tank, washed her up nice, etc. The good dealers do exist. Just not many of them left. Keep the Yelp and internet posts on the bad dealers going. Eventually the crooked dealers will go under. (Can't say they will change - crooks are crooks). BTW... the salesman at the Hyundai phoned us up a few weeks later saying he had a deal for us. Told him to eff off .... then wrote a few bad posts on the net about them.

When I was casually looking at a what a comparable crosstrek would cost last night. I noticed the local suby dealers also tacked on so much sh*t after the net price. (LoJack, wheel protection, paint protection, etc) when did this become common practice? The last time I bought a car from off the lot was many years ago and I've never seen these addons as part of the vehicle's final price. They were always optional when you were speaking with the finance guy.

I was actually pleasantly surprised that my Jeep dealership didn't try to get me to buy anything extra at the time of sale. I'm not even sure if any were available! LOL In the past, I've dealt with Nissan, Honda, and Toyota, and they always have a whole list of things they try to get you "add-on." I thought it was pretty standard, actually.

My son is in Mechanical Engineering. We don't have to pay much of anything except for help with some living expenses, and he pays for most of that now. He was recruited as a research assistant after he got his BS at the University of Florida, so CMU has always paid his full tuition plus a pretty decent salary as well. :)

Yes, I ADORE my hypergreen Renegade. I couldn't be happier! :)

This is commonly called the idiot test. They are not sure if you are an idiot or not. Before they test they don't know, you might be one.
Obviously though based on your experience their success rate in finding them is great.
