I'll second that, as an American. We. Don't. Use. The. Terms "nearside" or "offside." To decypher those terms, we have to remember what side the steering is for Brits (right), then therefore which side of the road they drive on (left), then which side would be "near" the
kerb curb (left) or "off" or away from the it (right). Way too much work for us.
If you're a Brit, and you want to be easily understood by Americans, then you need to use terms that everyone understands. "Driver's side" or "passenger side," when the matter has to do with which side the steering wheel is on; or "left" or "right" when referring to the outside of the vehicle; or steering-wheel-agnostic features.
Of course, for everyone, that assume you're facing forward. Don't open the
bonnet hood, look at the engine from the front, then say the battery is at the right...
