Looked under my 2016 TH, the nuts are missing, which is great because I was towing a trailer (600 pounds) I'll have to check my window sticker again, maybe "Some assembly required with the tow package" is on there. I'll be getting grade 10 or grade 8 nuts and installing them myself.

Surprising how slow this goes. Identified above on 8/22. I didn't get my recall notice until 9/20ish. Canada apparently was notified back in July about this same issue. http://www.jeeprenegadeforum.com/fo...62-trailer-tow-hitch-assembly.html#post573914

Even more frustrating is they don't have the parts to fix it? How hard is it to install a few nuts? My car is supposed to go in for multiple service engine notifications (even after they replaced the TCM) on Monday, and I wanted them to fix both issues at the same time.

Yeah, if one can't wait with already towed contraptions, good on ya for fixin' it yourself rather than wait for Jeep to make their official stadium recall sayin' the gates are now open to bring 'em all in. However, Jeep will want to know if you did this yourself down the line.

The hitch recall is for missing BOLTS not NUTS

Those nuts have nothing to do with the recall. It is for the anchor bolts. They are heavy duty 14mm bolts that anchor into the arms of the trailer hitch bumper that insert into the frame.

Here is inside the wheel well looking from the drivers side showing three bolts properly installed. Two face the outside of the vehicle and one faces the ground.

The triangle shaped bits are attatched with one nut per side, instead of three per side.
Mine had factory fit of the European removable towing Ball. It is identical to Westfalia one, we had two trailhawks alongside each other at the weekend and one was aftermarket fit and they are identical, apart from the cap that goes over the ball doesnt have "westfalia" written on it.

So, according to this thread, its either some of the smaller Nuts or the large Bolts that are missing.
I took a look under mine and took some photos, so this may help anyone that had one fitted in UK perhaps.

Bolts mentioned are ringed in black, nuts mentioned are ringed in red

Looking under my Jeep, its pretty easy to check if they are in place and thankfully they all are.

Nearside, on a UK right hand drive car:

Offside on a RHD car (drivers side):

Its an easy check to make, they can all be seen up underneath the bumper, if it is indeed these nuts and bolts.

These should be useful to several on here, so thank you for posting them.

In the UK, nearside is the left side and offside is the right side as though you are sitting in the vehicle facing forwards. So the location of the nuts and bolts should, I assume, be applicable to both left and right hand drive European and American models.

Re-reading this thread had me wondering... and taking a second look at my 2015 TH.

As previously mentioned, I installed the Renegade Ready hitch kit well over a year ago. I don't have a photographic memory, so I couldn't remember every nut and bolt involved. So I took a look.

I too am missing two nuts on each side. My Trailhawk original bumper didn't have them either. The whole thing is still held on by two M8 nuts and six M14 bolts (which go through the "frame").

I can't see how the missing M8 nuts would do much to secure the bumper because the associated studs aren't welded to much. I would think the bumper supplies more support for the sheet metal in this area than the other way around.

Either way, I'm heading to the hardware store to pick up 4 M8 nuts. I'll take the best grade they offer, and be confident it's not going anywhere. All I use it for is a bike rack.

Anyway - my point of this post is that maybe some Trailhawk bumpers don't have all the nuts they should have either. Or - maybe those nuts aren't needed for just the bumper. Although I'd wonder about that because of the recovery hook that is attached to the bumper.

Done. P.I.T.A with the bumper cover on! Yeah, four more nuts were probably not necessary, but I feel better about it now. Found class 10.9 nuts, flats, and locks at my local auto parts store. FYI, the nuts are M8-1.25.

Gotta' stop reading these forums!

They are probably getting bids so they can go with the cheapest supplier.
