Hi all,
2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.

Was away for 2 months and when I returned home, the vehicle won't turn over and I am getting multiple warning lights (prior to leaving - no issues, worked fine).

I was able to start it with a portable battery charger and have let it run for 30min. However, I am still getting a service engine warning light, service transmission warning light and blinking odometer. In addition, I can not shift out of park.

When I did popped the bevel and tried to shift using the emergency override, the shifter gets stuck in neutral and I can not put it in drive. No issues moving between park and reverse. I was able to put it back in park, but there it sits.

I tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a bit, but once I reconnected it, same thing.

So now, I can start the Jeep but I can't shift it out of park and I have a couple of warning lights. To complicate matters, I'm on the 9th floor of a parking garage. Any ideas on how to get this thing moving again? Thanks. Super frustrated...

Get new battery. Put new battery in jeep. Take battery out of jeep, charge it with battery charger, put back in jeep.

Given the size of the battery, the alternator, the amount of electronics drawing power in the vehicle, and past luck of trying to "drive it charged standing still" on older cars with MUCH beefier alternator output and near zero electronics. Put it this way even if it would work, 30 minutes ain't going to cut it.

My guess is you have enough juice to power up the electronics with lots of voltage regulation and low idle draw, but not to power the lockout solenoids. You can try checking the volage ont he DID, but mine has never said anything but 13.8 (i.e. perfect) despite the voltage swinging wildly if I do data monitoring via OBDII port.

Alterantely if you messed with the battery terminal clamps while using the power pack to jump it, make sure your negative terminal is on tight so you have ground. Losing ground makes the can-bus systems VERY unhappy.

Hi JDSRenegade,

Are you still experiencing the warning lights?

So tired of this POS car. Same issues, service engine light, and service transmission light.
After the cooling fan going out at 36K miles, and now I get this?
this? I bought new so I wouldn't have these maintenance issues.
If the Texas Lemon Law had any real teeth to it, this piece of crap would be a rusting square of scrap metal.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Been busy.

Mechanic came and was able to connect the computer to the Jeep to get it into neutral and tow to the shop. After some trouble shooting, the best he could tell me was that there was software problem from the factory install and that the vehicle / transmission had to be reprogrammed. $1k later and some more headaches, the Jeep ran great and I drive away thinking problem solved.

Recently I had to travel for work and let the Jeep sit for 6 weeks. Today I returned and try to fire up the Jeep. What do I find? Yup, I'm the proud owner of an overgrown paperweight. Here we go again. FML.

So my story sounds very similar in some ways.... driving along and flashed msg - something about transmission, and check engine light. Hmm. Everything seemed ok, and then later that day light goes out. Get car in for appt, oh - it needs software update. Ok, done ✅ About a week later I start up the Jeep and again the whole transmission “something “ (that I can never read cuz it’s so fast), and check engine light again. I drive to dealer immediately. They check codes. “I’m getting you a rental” is never what you want to hear. They had to order a part for the transmission. Ok. Yesterday we get a call.....”yeahhhhhh.....we replaced the part and took it for a test drive, and the same thing happened. We need to replace the transmission....”. So perhaps you need a new transmission? My Jeep was JUST a year old when this all started.... I’m pretty disappointed.

Any update? I'm in the same boat right now. Left a light on, battery died, got a jump, now throwing a P1500 code and can't shift to drive it home. And I'm parked somewhere I can't stay.

Having the same issue as you! Dead battery which after jumping it, a flashing odometer, service transmission blah blah blah. After reading post after post, it is quite clear that this is a factory defect that jeep needs to take responsibility and fix along with excessive magically disappearing engine oil.

Of course when you take to the dealer, they say everything is fine which it’s not.

Vehicle has less than 36k miles, cmon!!

Don't jumpstart them. It can play havoc with CANBus vehicles. Causing loads of errors and requiring a session on the diagnostic software to reset things.

I have heard of instances where things got fried too.

Only use a battery pack.

Flashing odo is a CANBus error.
Something is now failing to respond during the CABus diagnostics.

So how do you fix it? I'm having the same exact issue now on a 2015 Renegade with 40k on it. Battery died, replaced it now I can't move it.

Owning this Jeep has been problem after problem: keys stuck in ignition, fan going out after only 20K, and now after replacing a 4 year old battery, it's stuck in park. Searching the forum it looks like my only option is to have it towed to a dealership and pray whatever's wrong is covered under the warranty. Jeep made a mistake with this model, I'll be seeking a new vehicle from a different manufacturer as soon as possible.

I used to replace my car batteries every 3 years as a maintenance item, whether the battery was good or not. It was for piece of mind and batteries didn't cost that much. Batteries nowadays cost a small fortune and I have been waiting until they did a "slow crank" just one time then replaced.

I may go back to my original schedule, replace every 3 years since it seems a weak battery makes this vehicle turn in tiny circles and crap themselves. Who woulda thought a weak battery would essentially scramble the computer ?? Amazing.

This should be added to the Owners Manual:

1. Battery is weak/dead.
2. Replace battery. DO NOT jump start.
3. Limp to dealer while vehicle throws multiple codes.
4. Pay dealer to clear codes.
5. Repeat return trips to dealer as needed until all codes are cleared.

2015 renegade trailhawk here, 41,000 miles. Yesterday I was packing my car for a backpacking trip. I had music playing, but not long enough, I thought, to drain the battery. Well, it did - the battery died. I gave it a proper jump and it now starts. Unfortunately, now I'm getting a service engine and service transmission light and the odometer keeps blinking. The car will start, but I cannot shift it from park to any other gear. What is going on!?!? I'm thinking of replacing the battery. Might have to call AAA for a tow, but I'm at a loss.

The last few years I've also been dealing with my key getting stuck in ignition and it's been "fixed" multiple times...

I've heard other say that they had issues after a jump start from another car. It's best to use a battery jump box instead. That being said, maybe if you disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect it, it will have tome to "reset" a malfunctioning computer.

Hello JaiceMM,

We understand why this would be frustrating. If you end up going to the dealer for an inspection, let us know. We're available via private message and would be happy to help.

I experienced the same problem before. It was the battery. Somehow FCA got a defective lot of batteries from the vendors causing this problem.
It's not your Jeep. Its the battery!
