I have a 2015 Jeep Renegade Trail Hawk with the automatic transmission. This problem started out with the electric door locks not working correctly. A few days later I had a totally dead battery in the morning. At that time I received a transmission service error and a check engine error. I replaced the battery and now the transmission is locked in park. I was able to unlock the transmission shiftier and shift to neutral, however it will not shift into gear. It seams to be some kind of electronic problem created by the dead battery. I haven't had any problems with the transmission until this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately the only option is to have it towed to a dealership so they can clear the codes and "unlock" the transmission again. This happens from time to time with these Renegades.
On our 2nd and never had that happen to us.

I don't understand why it does on some and doesn't on others. I'm hoping if I need a battery at some point I'm not going to be stranded with a locked up tranny. There's several threads on here with people having had the same issue.

I have the same exact problem. Just had it happen to me for the 5th time. Now I can barely accelerate my parking break light is on, service engine light, traction light and transmitting light is on. 52,000 miles. Still being paid for. No one can tell me anything when I go in to get it looked at other than watch out for a recall because it’s messed up

It sounds like the computer goes into some safety mode that totally disables you from driving it? Do you think removing both battery cables and touching the ends together for 5 minutes would work to sort out this crazy glitch?

What year is your Jeep? Reason I ask is that it sounds like these Renegades get really cranky when battery voltage gets low and it might be time for a new battery. Bring it to an auto parts or battery store and they’ll hook up a multimeter to your battery to see how it is (or you could get one and do it yourself of course).

Of course it could be something totally unrelated to the battery. I’m just tossing ideas around. ;)

From all the posts I've seen, the only way to unlock the drivetrain again is to have it taken to the dealership and reset. If someone could find another solution it should be made a sticky on the forum because it would save a LOT of hassle for owners.

I have a 2015 Renegade with the exact same problem...the key fob stopped working, then the BRAND NEW battery died, and then the shifter stopped working. Towed it to the dealership and they want $1260 plus tax to fix it! It was just at the dealership in January for a full inspection and has barely been driven since then. I'm so frustrated with this vehicle...there's no reason for these kinds of repairs in a vehicle that was purchased new.
