When I search some way to disable the seatbelt reminder in this model which I just bought a month ago, I get tutorials involving hitting the on button twice, and taking the seatbelt off and on quickly 3 times. I have tried this and nothing happens, I think this technique might only work on Trailhawks or more recent models?

I know people often say "just keep it on" but I do very short runs on Doordash/Uber Eats and am constantly needing to make very short rides, and that ding sound is louder than in any car I've ever owned.

The up, down, left, down, left cheat code doesn't work on my 2015 Trailhawk either. It would be handy to do when I'm off road, my seatbelt locks up a lot.
Can someone confirm this trick works? Or maybe it is model specific?

Only way to do it is via the ODB port and software that always reconfiguration of the options.

Fiat/Alfa/Lancia/Jeep dealers used to do it here on request during services etc, but refuse to do it now on "safety" grounds.

Okay, I have to go to a dealership to have something done next month, so I'll ask them anyway. If they actually do it I'll post back.

I never understood why people say things like this. Accidents can't happen on short trips?
Life is full of Risk/Reward choices. We could all stay in bed with our covers up to our noses, but what would life be like that?

Sure. But what's the reward? Not having to wear a seatbelt? People can obviously do what they want. I'll just continue to be confused by it.
The "reward" is faster entry and exit of the vehicle. I'm not saying I do that (heck I put my seatbelt on out of habit when I move my vehicles around the driveway), but to some people the slight risk is worth the ease of exit and entry.

On the subject of safety... I heard an argument where seatbelts should be banned and steering wheel airbags replaced by a pointy spike that extends to within an inch of the driver's chest. That will make safe drivers out of people!

I would like to turn off the seatbelt ding so that when I put something heavy on the passenger seat I wouldn't have to listen to the ding. It wouldn't be so annoying if it just shut off but it just keeps going and going and going. It's an option that should be avaliable and if the owner of the vehicle wants it off then it should be up to owner to decide.

Seatbelt chimes are there for the constructor to avoid losing safety testing points.

If one needs to be reminded to put a seatbelt on with an audible warning, one probably shouldn't be driving. Just my opinion. ;)

It's not as annoying as the Active Lane Management though: Every trip it reactivates on the new Compass.
And the FCW switches back on and reverts to its most aggressive settings every time you start the car.

I agree with you almost completely.

I'm committed to seatbelt use for every single trip. Ever since driver's education in high school (remember that?). They had a sort of sled device that rolled you down a short incline with a belt on, to experience the force of coming to a sudden stop even at 7 MPH or so. That convinced me forever.

However, many times I don't buckle up when backing out of a parking space, or backing out of the driveway -- I've got this weird conviction that I can turn around in all directions to see better behind me. Almost all the time I remember to buckle up before setting off forward. Except sometimes it's nice to have the chime to remind me at 7 MPH...
