So I took my new acquired TH out a bit today. There's a pretty good size dirt Hill with some ruts and stuff near my house. Took the TH up the hill in 4x4 low rock mode. Managed the hill with eas except there are some weird noises. A weird humming/whinning noise from the axles. I'm hoping it's just the PTU doing its job. Also on the down hill, using the hill assist there is a similar sound when the system kicks in. It works great! I'm just curious about these noises.

I had similar noises driving on the beach in sand mode (which essentially locked 4WD).

I'm pretty sure you're right, I've heard this too when I've done some light offroading but mainly in 4LOW.

If you watch some of the older review videos demo'ing the Renegade going offroad, you'll hear that noise when things get tricky or it starts Tripod-ing.

That is not a humming noise.

One persons humming is anothers however you would describe the sound the traction control makes. Humming, buzzing, creaking, whatever. Traction control.
