What gear am I in?

I know it's a bit trivial, but is there any setting I can change to show what gear I'm in while driving the 9-speed in automatic mode?

No, sorry. You have to have it in auto-stick mode for the gear number to show (at least with the 7" color TFT).

I would like to have the gear number show while in automatic mode too. Maybe a future update will give that capability.
If I want a quick check, I just nudge it over to manual. Comes in handy if you want to see if it hits 9th gear. I have learned to tell by rpms too.
i'm guessing there is a way to do this with an OBD II? i would say, some big project like this: http://www.instructables.com/id/OBD-Pi/ but we have to figure out how to get video in to the radio. i wish the manufacturer would make more of this stuff accessible.

Completely agree, this is how I've come to do it as well.

I played with auto-stick for a while to get a feel for when to shift at what speeds normally and what RPM/speed is needed to do so. Once you get that down, you can typically figure out what gear you're in.

Exactly. I do this on my other autotick cars. No up of down, just nudge it over.
And I cant wait for 9 sp manuals. Noone'll know what speed their in EVAR. >:D

I've driven the new Corvette with the 7 speed manual. It's easy to get lost in the gates, especially when you're trying to stuff a panic downshift to brush off a pesky Mustang!
