What other vehicles did you (actually) consider?

I was just curious what other vehicles people considered when they bought the Renegade, or while they are still in the process of deciding. There are a lot of "vs." threads and discussions, here and elsewhere, but do Renegade shoppers also consider cars like the Soul and HRV that keep getting compared with the Renegade? Was it a choice between the Renegade and something larger? Or did some of you not even go shopping for other cars?

For me, hearing about the Renegade last year is what set me shopping for a car in the first place. While I was waiting for them to show up on dealer lots, I started considering these:

Ford Escape--Probably would not have been interested in it, but the end of 2014 models were so temptingly priced.
Jeep Cherokee--liked everything about it except the exterior appearance.
Subaru Forester--liked it a lot on paper but just couldn't get enthusiastic about driving it.

I was considering trading in my 2012 frontier sv v6 for a pro x4 frontier or xterra. I considered many others, but those were the front runners. What sealed the deal was better mpg, more comfortable ride, and more features. Of course, lower payments, OTD cost, and insurance didn't hurt either.

I was looking at the Subaru Crosstrek and the Honda Crosstour.

After I saw how many moms drive these things to my son's sport meets I decided to go a different route.
I was heavily leaning towards the Ford Escape as my last 2 cars were Ford's (2006 Mercury Milan(Fusion) / 2012 Focus)and they were both problem free the entire time. The Escape's look appealed to me, had a very similar but upscaled interior to the Focus that I really liked. It was the safe choice although the Renegade was always in the back of my mind the whole time. I test drove a Renegade when they first arrived on lots but it was very short in supply for the longest time and it fell off the radar.

I live in Southern Utah and work at a large animal sanctuary with many bumpy dirt roads. Our winters can get as cold as the rest of the countries with the occasional snow dump so 4x4 / AWD, remote start, heated seats were part of the requirements. There are many off-roading opportunities in the state of Utah (think Moab) so the Jeep seemed the more natural choice. So I started considering it again.

As I started looking at numbers the Renegade was cheaper than the Ford with the needed options, and the dealer inventories of the Renegade were getting better. My Commando Green TrailHawk came out of nowhere and I bought it the day it came off the truck!

I researched Subaru but found their tech lacking. Toyota / Nissan had nothing appealing in my price range. Honda CRV's are very boring to me. I have a relative in the auto industry who could get me a discount on GM / Ford / Chrysler vehicles so the other models were never really an option. I did look into GMC Encore but the radio system was so cluttered looking. A major turn off.

I couldn't find anything comparable to the Trailhawk in terms of small size, gas mileage and 4x4 Low. If we had decided not to get the Trailhawk, I believe we would have given up on the 4x4 and gone a completely different direction. (I had my eye on the Mazda3 hatchback.)
We drove the new Honda HR-V (front seats seemed cramped, and we didn't like the touchscreen controls for everything - seemed like they would be very prone to scratches), the Subaru Crosstrek (cramped front seats), the BMW i3 (other car is an Element - we want a kid and didn't want 2 cars with suicide doors), the Mazda CX-5 (price was high for what it was and we were nervous to wait for the CX-3 since the lease on our BMW X1 is ticking to an end), and finally the Mercedes GLA.

Honestly, the Jeep got an emotion-based win over the GLA. But it was close! ;)
Needed to replace my 2005 Ford Eacape which it really have liked. Was leaning toward a Buick Encore or a Chevy Captiva (you can only get them used) then came across the Renegade. I like its towing capacity and it reminds me of my grandfathers 75 Jeep (which is still running) so in memorial to him, ordered a blue TH.

I actually bought a 2012 Chevy Volt instead of the Rene. It was cheaper and couldn't take the chance of being a buyer with new car horror stories. But besides the Renegade (which I had and still have my heart set on) I was considering a Kia Soul with some nice options, Chrysler 200 because I really liked the interior and exterior styling, Jeep Cherokee because I really liked the feel from sitting and driving it plus the size was perf.
I need a vehicle that is easy to get in and out easily, so I am limited as to what I can get. Standard saloons (sedans) and estates (station wagon) are too low. Things like the Wrangler, nice, but out my reach anyway, is too high for me. I tried to get in one, just out of interest and was too high. So dedicated big 4x4s like that are out. So I'm left with people carriers and small suvs. Great. At present I have a 2013 Renault Scenic. Good. Does what it says on the tin, but now it isn't suitable. So I went on the interweb and searched out manufacturers that have suitable vehicles that are on the motability scheme. See my thread in the United Kingdom area about more on the motability scheme.

So we were thinking about a Skoda Yeti Outdoors 4x2. Off we went to the dealer and had a poke around one. Ok, we liked it. But then I saw an advert on television for the new Jeep Renegade. Oooh, I do like that. So I went on the Jeep website and requested a Renegade brochure. Very nice. So we went to the Jeep dealer and had a scratch about. No contest! Renegade beats the Yeti Outdoors hands down. I so wanted one. Today I placed my order for a Renegade 1.4 Longitude (Latitude in the USA and North in Canada). Just waiting for delivery.

Really there was nothing else I wanted, but the Renegade.

Me too, after taking a closer look at the contenders. Hope the anticipation just makes it all the sweeter when you get yours!

We have a 2015 Dodge Caravan and I was using a 06 pontiac Wave for everyday work. I wasnt in the market for a new vehicle other than a Mustang. I never could pull the trigger to get one because its not really practical with 2 kids and to be using in the winter.

But when I saw the Renegade driving past the lost, looked it up, it was cool looking, decent on gas, affordable, and useful in the winter and family stuff...

I really liked the honda CRZ until I found out it was 2 seater... if it sat 4, even cramped, I probably would have gone with it lol...
There was NO other cars that we would have bought...

Our family car was a Ford Focus 2005, which was an incredibly reliable car and had safely travelled us for more than 165000 km.We hadnt considered buying a new car and no other car seemed good enough to replace it. So we decided to just wait and see what new cars would launch in the following 2 years.

Then we saw a Renegade near our house... Love at first sight!

Looked at Mini Countrymans with 6-speed manual, but they're expensive to buy, and maintain. And I couldn't stand the giant Flava-Flav clock in the center of the dash.

Seen the Honda HR-V and it could be had with a manual, but dumped that idea as soon as I noticed the anemic engine with <130ft/lbs of torque.

Test drove a Mazda CX-5 fwd with manual trans. I liked it. Power was ok, had more trunk space than the Renegade.

My employee discount with Chrysler and the torque of the 1.4T tipped the scale towards Jeep.

All of these vehicles had mpg's over 30 for highway.
The only other vehicles I considered were the Jeep Cherokee and Subaru XV Crosstrek. I wasn't a fan of the Crosstrek's interior and the Cherokee just didn't have the character like the Renegade has. Very happy with my decision to go with a Yinzer Yellow Renegade Trailhawk.

It was pretty much the same for me, except I was seriously considering having a ?koda Yeti 4x4, or its Outdoor version. I drove it and it was quite ok, very easy to handle, good quality, but perhaps a bit expensive. Another alternative might have been a Subaru Forester, but somehow it was not attractive in the end.

Back home I remembered having seen an article about an orange Jeep. It was a short test of a Trailhawk. Found the paper, read it more carefully, to my great surprise got my wife also interested. Next: where's the nearest dealer? Due to some rearrangements within FCA there was temporarily no Jeep import at all last winter in Finland. It started again in April, though.

After having driven a 1.4 FWD at our nearest dealer it started to be very clear. A 4WD Limited A/T was to be found in a small town some 200 km away from us. Took a trip there, had a test drive and that was it: one for me please! What a first impression! The ?koda was no option after this experience.

I used to drive a VW Passat before the Jeep and another VW prior to that. Passat was ok, it had 180 000 km on it, but compared to Renny it did not have any character at all. Also, it was a Bluemotion version with a very limited ground clearance. I sometimes need to drive on roads (or paths...) that are not so smooth and even, and did not like the feeling the ground touching the bottom of my Passat.

Also, the overall visibility is so much bettet when you sit above the sedans. An Omaha Orange Renegade compared to a low Islandgrau Passat feels much safer, as well. I used to have a feeling that the low-rider VW was not properly seen by other motorists.

My Jeep now has the first 1000 km. Our faces ache due to constant smiling...

A UK magazine drove both the Skoda Yeti Outdoors and Renegade 4x4s and while they were impressed with the Yeti, it didn't come close to the Renegade. What clinched it for us was the standard kit. Comparing the mid range Yeti to the Longitude/Latitude/North depending on which market you are in, the Renegade had more kit. Besides, the Renegade looks better and I do like the pastel colours, which is why ours is solar yellow. Stand out from the crowd. Collecting it on Tuesday morning.
We looked at the Ford Escape and the Toyota Rav4. We had a 2006 Escape and liked it very much but the new model Escape didn't do it for us. We didn't bother to drive the Rav4, looked at it in the showroom and wasn't impressed. We are really enjoying our Renegade. I have taken a bit of razzing from my fishing friends that own Wranglers, why didn't I buy a real Jeep, don't park too close to our Wranglers, but they did admit the Renegade is pretty nice. One of my friends is going to check out a Renegade for his wife to replace her old Rav4.
I was also strongly considering a Mazda Cx-3 Touring AWD. Test drove it before the Renegade and I really loved it, but being back in a Jeep felt like home, and I like the dashboard in the Renegade a lot more.

If I could have 2 cars, I'd grab a CX 3 too. Haha.
For me, I really need to switch to a four door vehicle. I also really wanted AWD, and I require a manual transmission. This really limited my options.

18 months ago I was mostly interested in a Subaru WRX. It would have been a natural progression from all the small sporty coupes I've always driven.

Last winter, and our apartment's lackluster snowplow service, made me want some ground clearance though. So then I started looking at crossovers. If I'm buying something like an SUV, I want it to look like one. I don't like how most other crossovers look like sporty cars with a raised suspension. If I was giving up that low-to-the-ground racer feel, I wanted something more geared toward utility. So, naturally the Renegade caught my eye! There's nothing really comparable.
