Come to think of it I never had the windshield replaced, but both my 2017 and 2019's had chips. The 2017 I had the chip repaired, the 2019 it was on the passenger side out of view and didn't bother me so I just left it alone. I think it's the almost straight up and down nature of the windshield to be honest. It doesn't really slope like a car windshield does, so it's a more direct hit if anything comes into contact with it. I unfortunately spend a lot of time on Alligator Alley in South Florida and I'm constantly finding myself behind big dump trucks which both times have been the culprits that have caused me windshield trauma.

My 2015 with just under 40k miles is original and has no chips (and a full-size matching spare tire😈).

Yes.

Of course, living in Colorado, that comes with the territory. (Lots of sand used on the roads in winter.)

And I think that's the reason. I really doubt auto glass formulations very widely among manufacturers...

I mentioned above we live in Colorado Springs. With only a year's driving on the Trailhawk, and only about 4,500 miles, in addition to tiny chips in the windshield, I've also got two small bulleseye cracks. It is aggravating, but I blame Colorado roads -- not the Trailhawk.

For better or for worse, I bought additional coverage on the Trailhawk from the dealer, which includes windshield replacement if necessary. Because Colorado.

Interesting I don't remember having a chip or crack in any vehicle I owned until my 2016 Limited Renegade. It got a chip and turned into a crack by the next day so I had it replaced. My 2020 Renegade TH has a chip that I was told will not need repaired. Btw I have owned a Jeep Compass and Liberty that never chipped or cracked. Perhaps it is a Renegade issue?

Again, I doubt it; other than the angle of the windshield (even your Compass probably has a steeper angle).

We keep our cars at least 10 to 15 years. And every single car we've ever had, got chips and bullseye cracks. The windshields eventually look like "starry night" against the sun. Especially ehre in Colorado after a couple winters; we've lived here before, and it was the same then.

Both of our new 2009 Mk5 Volkswagens got bullseye hits to their windshields within a month or two of purchase, driving the DC Beltway and the B-W Parkway...

Yeah angle or whatever... Renegade is the only type I had chips in in 40+ years of driving. Seems from my personal experience the Renegade for whatever reason chipped easier.

Well, my Trailhawk's Renegade windshield was made by Saint-Gobain Sekurit. The homologation E-mark is E9, which means the windshield got its European approval in Spain.

Only difference on our two Volkswagen windshields (other than the VW vs. Mopar branding) is that the VW windshields have an E6 marking, meaning homologation in Belgium.

I'm sure their compositions (and safety standards) are pretty-much identical.

I also measured the windshield angles. The two VWs have center-point angles of 63° from vertical, while my Trailhawk's windshield is 52°. So 11° more vertical.

So, yeah, angle... :)

French Glass. They should've gone with Pilkington.

Did not notice any in mine after 4 years but agree with Marek about the upright nature of Renegade's windscreen [sic].

As I've said before, any cracked windscreen should be replaced. It makes of part of the structural rigidity and safety of modern cars.

You've got nerve, with that Tricolor under your avatar...

I agree, regarding cracks; either by themselves, or radiating from chips or "bullseyes."

But my bulleyes are tiny -- less than 5mm each, and neither one in my line of sight.

One is about 15mm above my driver's side dashboard speaker (I used the mm side of my ruler for your benefit ;) ):

And the other is just above the temperature sensor at the bottom-center of the windshield [sic]:

Man, it's hard to get decent photos of things in or on the glass...

And, yes, those other sparkly things are all "normal" rock and sand chips...

Replacing this windshield would run close to $1,000. I do have additional coverage from Jeep that would cover windshield replacement, but I really doubt they'd do it for this damage. Much less twice.

And I really doubt my insurance company would do it, even though I have $500 deductible.

I am keeping a close eye on these bullseyes, to make sure they don't start radiating cracks...

Yes, I had to replace my jeep windshield, (3) times!! I couldn't afford the factory windshield anymore, the guy at Safellite said, it had to do with the way the windshield like straight up, not slanted like other vehicles. So, the impact of rocks and debris can easily crack or chip the windshield, he said, he has alot of calls for windshield replacement on the Jeep Renegades

Unfortunately, according to the Corning Glass web site...

Corning Gorilla Glass Option for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Windshields | Corning

...Gorilla Glass is only available for the Wrangler and Gladiator.

It says it's now a factory option, three years after availability as a replacement windshield. But again, only for the Wrangler and Gladiator.

Unless I'm missing something...?
Hi Marek. You may be missing something; however, you are correct about the Gorilla glass. My bad. The article that I had read was not specific on Jeep model. In any case thanks for your investigative skills. Happy trails!

I've had my renegade for approx 1 year. It had a crack within days off the lot. I also noticed what looks like thousands of very tiny air bubbles when the sun hits it. It can't be wear because it was brand new. Still has less than 25k miles on it.

Welcome!

Depends on where you are; specifically how sandy, gravelly, or otherwise unclean the road surfaces are.

The "tiny air bubbles" or point-like glints are from sand-blasting that you don't even know happens.

Here in Colorado, what you're describing is absolutely the case -- for any vehicle. Our Trailhawk has less miles than your Renegade, but the windshield is already bad. Just like our two VWs.
