Windshield washer reservoir cap

575 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Mud Pie
The Windshield washer reservoir cap on my 2015 Renegade Trailhawk broke and finding a replacement is proving problematic. The Mopar parts diagram does not even give a part number for the cap separate from the reservoir filler tube + cap sold as a combination, even though they are two distinctly different pieces.

The plastic lip on the filler tube that the cap snaps over is 60 mm. This seems to be an odd size compared to most of the generic reservoir caps for sale on the internet. You'd think a part like this would either break or get lost frequently enough that some one should be selling them, but so far I haven't found one. If anyone has found a source for a replacement cap I'd appreciate knowing where.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately this is a different cap from the one that goes on the windshield washer reservoir.
Sorry, wrong reservoir.

You're right -- all I'm seeing from Mopar is the entire reservoir for about $60. That's pretty steep when all you need is the simple plastic cap...

I assume you've scoured Amazon? I'm looking there, but most of the caps that say they "fit[] 2015 Jeep Renegade"... obviously don't.

There is one that's 5.9 cm:

Rydowenna Windshield Washer Bottle Cap Small Ring Lid Cover Compatible with Honda Accord Civic CRV CRX, 38513-SB0-961, blue, m (amazon.com)

Maybe close enough to risk $5.59 for...?

Otherwise...junkyard?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I've searched Amazon, eBay, CarParts.com, MyMoparParts, etc. every which way without success. Jeep (or Fiat) changed the style of the cap in 2017 (probably because the other ones were breaking). Mopar sells the 2017+ caps as a separate part, but not the pre-2017 ones.

The OEM cap has a large loop that goes over the filler tube so when the cap is off it doesn't get lost. I suppose (assuming the Honda cap fits) I could zip tie the small loop to the filler tube to secure it. In the best of all worlds, I'd prefer not to jury-rig it. However, if I can't find an OEM or the equivalent I may not have a choice.

It amazes me that a replacement cap is so hard to find. It's not as if this is some obscure, rarely encountered part (unless one never refills the washer reservoir!) and I can't be the first to have the part fail.

Nevertheless, I continue to love Jeeps.

Strange size? It is recommended to look at more.

I'm looking it up for my 2021 Trailhawk, and I'm seeing just the filler neck listed (together with the cap). Backordered, so I don't see the price. Or the entire reservoir assembly for the entire reservoir for $65.

Are you sure the filler cap is a different diameter now? Of course, being backordered, that's a problem too...
The reservoir caps for the newer Renegades have a different mechanism that attaches them to the filler tube when open. The 2015-6 models have a large loop that goes around the filler tube to accomplish this; 2017 and later do not have this. It is possible to purchase both the filler tube and cap from Mopar suppliers for the 2015, but not just the cap. It doesn't make much sense - kind of like needing a button for a shirt and having to buy a new shirt just to get the button.
It'll be a standard Fiat screen wash bottle/reservoir cap.

The filler cap for my 2021 Trailhawk looks like this:

So it definitely has a large loop around the tube.

What does yours look like?

Here's my cap open -- the outside diameter of the rim around the filler neck is 60mm, like yours:

And the inside rim of the cap is 58mm diameter:

Also, I'm looking at this site...

2015-2023 Mopar Washer Reservoir Filler Neck 68285207AA | My Mopar Parts

...and it shows that the 68285207AA filler necks with caps are all the same for 2015-2023 Renegades.

Backordered on that site; but available here for about $28:

Not as cheap as just the cap should be, but if you absolutely want OEM (like I would)...

The Fiat cap (I believe the Renegade is based on a Fiat 500) appears quite different from the cap on my car.

The one pictured above from the 2021 model appears similar. The Mopar parts websites keep telling me it's not compatible with the 2015 Renegade, but it may be worth a try.

In looking at the on-line photos of Mopar Renegade replacement washer reservoirs, it looks like they changed to a one-piece filler tube/reservoir unit instead of the original two piece unit in which the filler tube was separate and attached to the reservoir with a gasket. I probably will end up buying the combo filler tube/cap just to get the cap. My wife suggested I get a large cork...

Thanks to all for the input.

Nope. From what I can tell, my 2021 filler neck is separate from the reservoir:

You can see the black gasket/seal at its bottom.

And it looks just like the one pictured on My Mopar Parts:

Sorry - the one piece reservoir/filler tube unit is for the Cherokee, not the Renegade (I keep having Cherokee parts coming up on my internet searches mixed in with the Renegade results). The newer Renegade reservoir is a different Mopar part number (68439617AA) and is listed as being incompatible with the 2015 model (68595933AA) (but the filler tube is the same part number - 68285207AA). It looks like the only way to get an OEM cap is to buy the filler tube/cap combination. One Mopar website has them for a little over $25 including shipping. I'll probably buy that and just take the cap off it. One more piece of unused plastic to clutter up the planet.

Yeah, I'm finding not-quite-accurate search results too. Means we all have to be real careful when ordering; like carefully checking the illustrations...

Yes, that's what I'd do.

I suspect the reason the cap is sold together with the filler neck is because just the cap ring is not easy to remove and replace. You might be risking damage.

As long as you're going to have the entire new filler neck, it looks dirt-simple to remove and replace the whole thing. Here's the write-up from my 2020 USB Service Manual:

Yes, you'll still be cluttering up the planet with your old filler neck, and I hope you feel bad about that. ;) But at least you'll have a new one on your vehicle...

A piece of folded over foil and a rubber band in the meantime....
