Automatic Parking Brake - LEGIT

Ok, so, the Renegade (mine at least) has this relatively cool feature that automatically locks up the parking brake when you shift into park.

It makes a strange noise from under the seats, almost like a worm gear or a hydraulic, hard to say.

What I CAN say is, there is no danger of this thing getting away in park.

This morning I forgot to take the brake off and stomped on the gas and I thought I shredded the transmission or something because literally nothing happened.

Which brings me to this question - isn't the brake supposed to automatically de-activate once you put the thing in drive?

I deactivated that thing for that very reason. That technology is too new for it to be common knowledge to anyone that might happen to have to drive your car. Ex: I ran my car thru a car wash and the attendant had no clue as to why my car wouldn't move, and he also couldn't disengage the brake (he eventually found the switch after looking but was not putting his foot on the brake peddle for some reason)

I am sure its getting more widespread, but its still unnatural to have a parking brake like that.
My buddy at the office just bought a '15 Cherokee Trailhawk and he did it on the way out to lunch today.

The parking brakes in these are stout man, I've never had a vehicle that straight up WILL NOT MOVE with the brake on.
