My 2015 Renegade Latitude 2.4L just died on me today after I picked up my daughter from school. I exited the parking lot and pulled up to the stop sign where I hit the accelerator and all power was lost. This happened with no warning lights. Of course I had a huge line of traffic and school buses behind me. I tried to re-start and although the engine would turn over it wouldn't start. Got it pushed to the other side of the road and another parent offered to try a jump start. This didn't work. I checked all my fluid levels and coolant, oil were fine. Gas tank was 3/4 full. I had to call for a tow to the dealership. Of course it just came out of warranty. Since it was late they can't look at it until tomorrow. I'm very upset. I've never had a vehicle just die in traffic and this isn't something one would expect from a vehicle with less than 40K miles. has anyone had this problem diagnosed and fixed to where it dos not happen again?

I have a Jeep Renegade Latitude/Limited 2016, the car died on me while doing a Uber trip. The dashboard shows two bars of gas. All of a sudden the dashboard changed to Low RTE and two seconds later the car died. I only have 55k miles on the car. A local guy in the neighborhood said that my car must be out of gas, I bought gas at a local gas station and for some reason there is a internal blockage preventing from adding the fuel. Honestly, I had nothing but bad luck with this car from the day I got it. Never again buying anything from Chrysler

2017 renegade my wife has had hers stall twice now
Message says shift to park then something about transmission
We had a fiat 500 that did the same dealer had the car for six months before they found a glitch in the computer had to somehow make a new program or something along those lines
Ran fine after that till it was hit by a tractor and wrote off

So my wife's 2017 renegade trailhawk had pretty much just died while driving without warning. Just out of nowhere with no apparent reason
This had happened 4 times in 1 week
Wife was pretty much afraid to drive the thing after the second time
We booked it in with our local dealer to have ti looked at after it occurred the second time
The day we took it in it had died twice
Dealer did an update on the computer and took for a test drive when it also died on the test drive
They then check the oil and found it was low 2 quarts low on oil. So they did an oil change as it was coming due anyway.
They took it for a test drive for a second time and all seemed fine
They say that the 2.4 engine goes through some oil and should be checked and typed up every 2000 km
We had the car back for 2 days now and no issues to report so far
I am not sure why this car uses so much oil . I can understand that there may be some use of oil but 2 quarts between oil changes seems like a little much
But for those of you who are experiencing this issue check your oil it may be the cause of your engine dieing

Car info
2015 Jeep Renegade Limited 4x4 with 37,000 miles

Issue Day 1: Wife was taking her car to work and made it about 2 miles down the road before the engine stalled out. Only service light to come on was the Service Power Steering message. She could not get the car to restart. I got to her about 30 minutes later, got in and was able to start the car after about 10 seconds with the key turned. First 7-8 seconds the car was making almost no noise then it cranked/turned over and started up. I got out and popped the hood, nothing looked out of place. Scrolled through the car settings and everything looked ok. Service Power Steering message was still on. (Note that this day was around 50F, and raining).

Issue Day 2: About a week later (She is borrowing a different car, and the renegade sat in the driveway) I decided to take the car to work to get a better feel for what happened when the engine died on her, as I was not able to get the issue to replicate as it ran for me no problem for ~30 mins while waiting/getting it back to the house. I got in and started the car up, drove about 1/3 of a mile and scrolled through all the vehicle info. The battery/alternator was reading 0V. With that in mind I decided to go around the block and bring it back home thinking that was the issue. Made two lefts, and then stalled out on the side of the road. Similar to before only the Service Power Steering message was on, the car told me to shift to park then into gear to move. I put it into park and struggled to get the car to start, but it eventually did. Got my speed up a little more so if it died again I would at least be able to coast it into the driveway. It did stall again this time as I entered the driveway. (Note: No rain this day was around 35F).

I took my own car to work and left the Renegade for when I got home. When I got home I got in the car and with just they key in the ignition the battery was reading 12V, started the car and it sat at 0V for 20-30 seconds then was reading 14.8V, and the power steering message was out. The rest of that night I was unable to get the car to stall out sitting in the driveway/backing up/pulling up a little at a time.

Has anyone else had a similar situation and does this sound like it should be covered under the power train warranty as the the 36k bumper to bumper has lapsed. I am going to try calling the local dealer this afternoon, but wanted to get some feedback first.

Thanks in advance.
I had this same thing happen to me. The first was a week ago. I had left me house and went less than a mile and the car died at a stop light. I couldn’t really tell, except that the display said “vehicle not in park” which is the indicator that there was no power. So, I put the vehicle in park and hit the ignition button. It killed the power, then I restarted it and everything was ok. The second time was today (Monday). I left work, drove less than a mile and the engine died at a stoplight. Same response from me, but this time it was tough to restart. It sputtered and bogged down. Then it started and I drove 20 miles home. Both times the weather has been in the 30s and this has happened after the car has sat for a long period and hadn’t properly warmed up. Today I checked the battery on the display and it showed 12.8v. I have a 2016 Limited with 51,000 miles.
Master shake 2129, did you ever get an explanation or resolution?

Hi all I don't have too much to add by way of resolution but I did read Jniksch's above post twice.

In the post is reference to weather external temperature and here lies a very small and pedantic issue over the lack of a letter.

Centigrade (C) or Fahrenheit (F). I personally use both temperature ranges and I am sure others do. Can we please and try and add that simple letter to the end of your temperature reading, when posting. It will easily alleviate confusion and repeatedly having to read a post to make sense of it.

1 letter of a difference guys, 1 letter is all that's being asked.

My double take was 30 degrees which roughly equates to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (90F for short) which seems reasonable depending upon which part of the world a person is currently residing. Then I looked at the flag for country of origin and realised it was Winter time and had to start all over again. In this instance 30 meant subtracting 30 from the original 30 and dividing 2 to get 0 degrees thereabouts. (0C)

Yes mental arithmetic and temperature conversion is quite easy but you have to know is it 30 apples, 30 oranges or in this case 30 degrees Fahrenheit for some of us older guys to get a grasp of what you mean.

To clarify: 30C = approximately 90F which is a good summer somehere in the world. However 30F is equal to around zero degrees or 0C which is cold and certainly not Summer.

Hopefully you understand this is a post designed to assist the topic and not to deflect nor hijack it. (y)(y)

I apologize for forgetting that not everyone uses Fahrenheit, you didn’t have to be rude about it though. Temp doesn’t really seem to be the issue across the board, however. If you don’t have any helpful input, maybe silence is more appreciated.

Temp could be a factor as a frozen muffler can cause your issue. Not sure about having error messages though...

It’s most likely an oil issue. Someone had posted at one point that there was a safety feature that killed the engine when oil was low. Turns out that there is a recall on the 2.4 L engine because there is an issue that causes it to use too much oil. There’s also a software issue that it stopping the vehicle from throwing the oil change required or low engine oil warning. I check levels yesterday and my oil was low, so I got that taken care of. I will see if I have any more issues before it goes to the dealer next week for the recall work.

Dealer thinks the fuel tank and breather valve are both bad and have ordered parts that wont be here for another 5-6 days. Hopefully this solves the issue because its pretty scary when your on the freeway going 65 and the entire car shuts down without warning... they also said my oil filter is bad and leaking and they need to replace that...obviously unrelated.. Thanks
That IS the problem…I kept stalling and just got a needed oil change and have NOT stalled since! 🤦‍♂️ I had not had a change for 8000 and the air filter was really dirty…I put the best replacement oil in and nice new filter…that did the trick for me 🙏
