Howdy all! I ended up doing some research and stumbled upon a forum post over on ToasterJeep, with some information in regards to the manual transaxles (transverse transmission) in the Renegade (found here: Jeep Renegade 1.4L 6SP Manual Trans Fluid)

If you're looking for MTF that isn't the OEM branded stuff and haven't heard about it, Redline makes a product that's compatible with the C635 Manual Transaxle (found here: MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 Gear Oil)

I decided to do some digging about it because I kept seeing conflicting information about it everywhere, down to Dart people running 75W-90 gear oil in their transaxles and other things outside of factory spec. Here soon I'll be replacing the fluid in my transaxle and report my findings.

My apologies if someone else has already posted about this.

Bump to bring this post back to life, for information sake

I wasn't entirely aware of the process of draining and refilling it, so I looked around for any tutorials I could find. Luckily enough, I found this tutorial (with diagrams) on the Dart forum, with step by step procedures: Manual Transmission Gear Oil???

Another tutorial I came across, however not that great, does show how to do it (However, the uploader used the wrong fluid, do not use the fluid they did. Instead, use MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 or the Mopar C-Series Manual/DDCT Transmission Fluid)

Some notes, since it doesn't say it on the post:
  • The drain plug is a 12mm Hex Bit (I had to go buy one)
  • There is enough room to fit a ratchet or hex key with a wrench (Some remove parts of the suspension to get at it but you totally do not need to do that. I went from the bottom of the car because that gave the most room)
  • My driveway is sloped, and I got away with just jacking up the front by the sub frame
  • It is important to make sure your vehicle is level before you drain or fill the transmission

I used Red Line Oil's MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 Gear Oil (MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 Gear Oil) and it works brilliantly. Shifts are much smoother now and the car overall responds to throttle better. The capacity of the transaxle is 1.8qts (however, on the C635, it's easy to tell when it's full if fluid starts dripping from the fill port). My test drive, after changing the fluid, consisted of hill driving, hard acceleration, cruising, and stop/go traffic.

Definite recommendation for the MT-LV Gear Oil from Red Line, works spectacularly.
