My husband and I just purchased the 2015 Jeep Renegade Latitude.

We are having a heck of a time finding a spare tire for it. We prefer a donut since room is limited but will do a full size if nothing else.

Jeep dealership quoted 815.00 just for the aluminum rim and no tire.

The size is 215/60/17. What are my options?

I've learned from one of the Renegade product planning managers at headquarters that spare tires in particular are on a long back-order from Europe. They are making an effort to ensure that new vehicles are being sent with them included. This won't solve your problem for the short term unfortunately. The Dodge Dart has the same 5x110mm lug bolt pattern as the Renegade. This might be a workable option: have the dealer pull the donut spare from a Dart and test fit it to your Renegade. Even if the outside diameter doesn't match perfect, you will be able to hobble to a tire shop. I'll check with my contacts on the current lead time on spare tire parts.

Full size temporary use spare

Am wondering if the full size temporary use spare comes deflated or inflated & if it is just the same size as a normal tire, but just comes as a black steel wheel. Also wondering if it comes with a tire inflator. And does it come with a jack? I am thinking of going this route and then ordering a normal wheel to match the other 4, get rid of the steel wheel and have a matching "spare" when needed that can go highway speeds. But that would not be possible if I can't fit a normal sized wheel and tire in that trunk space. It might be only big enough for a smaller, deflated temporary use wheel and tire.

Wondering if it looks like this. This is a full size matching tire and wheel for a Trailhawk. As you can see the jack is stowed to the right.

So has anyone bought or seen such a full size temporary use spare? If yes then please post pictures and let everyone know if it comes with a tire inflator and/or a jack. Thanks.

Yep, I've got a Trailhawk and got the same stuff you did. I'm tempted to get rid of that foam insert so I can use that area to store more stuff. Right now it is holding my cheap 12v inflator that fits in it.

I know in the Challenger world, if you get a spare tire (only a mini-spare is available), you do not get the inflator kit. You only get the jack if you have a spare.

I'm guessing that the Renegade will be similar. Inflator kit, no spare or jack. Spare tire (of any kind), you get a jack but no inflator kit.

If your vehicle came with a spare tire, then it should be properly inflated. The inflator kit is for cars that don't come with a spare tire. It basically compresses air into the tire along with some kind of goo that seals the leak as an emergency measure until you can properly get it patched.

Having worked in a dealership before, I've been through the pre-delivery inspection process and part of that is inflating and ensuring tire pressures are where they should be.

However it is a good idea to have a compressor since from time to time your tire pressures will drop a few numbers and will need some topping up. Tech's actually do this when vehicles are in for servicing.

5 Tire rotations at 5000 miles.
When the Jeep has 25,000 miles each tire will only have 20,000 miles on them. At 50,000 miles each will only have 40,000 miles and so on. If these tires will last 65000, I wont need to buy tires till there is 78,000 miles on the Jeep.
I've been doing 5 tire rotations with Jeeps (this is our 9th one)for a good while now as they are just about the only ones that include a matching wheel, tire and a pressure sensor.
When buying 5 tires when the times comes means you have a fresh matching spare to do this all over. Maybe the OEM tires are not available or you want a different tire or size.

You really use your Tires up to 65000 Miles on 1 Set?
Best i had on a Car was messed up to Wear limit at about 40000 km and that is the Distance i drive every year with it ...

For me its not useful to change a 5th wheel or even to have a spare Tire onboard ... since 1981 i needed exactly 1 Time a spare tire (and in this case i had to be towed bcause the wheel Nut got damaged when the Tire blew of)

So i leave it on 4 Wheels and got to be towed when the Tire is gone and not "smart repairable" with the Tire Kit ... :D

The temporary full size spare is just a little donut tire, but the size of the regular wheel. It will get you to a tire shop, but not off a trail and not at high speeds (about 55 mph).

The full size tire in the TH is pretty much just a 5th tire. I have a similar set up on my current 05 Ford Escape (ordered a TH - hoping my Escape with 158k on it gets me to November when the TH arrives) and what I do like about it is when I have a tire blow-out, I've been able to buy one new tire instead of two, and then have them put the old tire on the spare wheel, that way I have a full size spare if/when I need it. Or, if you need to replace all four tires and have the fresh one as the spare, you can just buy three, and have them put one with the most tread on the spare.

And, regarding removing the styrofoam from the "trunk" of the renegade, I think you may be better off leaving it in and just using the voids around the tire and in the styrofoam to put your jumper cables, screw-driver & tools, etc. - that way they your won't have a clunking noise.

Just my 2 cents of this thread.

I swapped out the inflator/goo setup and got a donut and jack combo off ebay for like $120.

Then last week I got my first flat with the 2 year old car...sliced the sidewall. The donut and jack is good for every kind of flat. Paid for itself with what I saved in lost wages, towing, and copay for counseling.

I'm wanting to do this as well (at least for longer trips). I took a look at the inflator and noticed the foam was secured with only 1 screw, so I removed it. There is enough room for a spare in there, but probably not enough to get the bottom cover on. I'm thinking, I'd have to put some blankets and be forced to use the cargo tray in the regular position and not the lowered position. See attached photos for reference.

Could you point me to where you got the donut/jack combo?

[NON TRAILHAWKS HAVE NO SPARE]

EDIT: Does anyone know if there is supposed to be something in the left part of the foam cutout? Looks like a spot for 1 or 2 things, but nothing there.

With the spare tire you lose the option to lower the cargo floor to the lower position. The Trailhawk comes with a mini-Styrofoam organizer that fits on the driver's side of the spare.

I understand. I'm just wondering how it will be if I retrofit a spare into the vehicle. I'd be ok with losing the lower cargo floor position, just I'm wondering how much of an open gap there will be and if I'd have to put some blankets or other padding in there. I don't really know if there is enough room to put a full size spare in there. Does anyone with a trailhawk have a photo without their spare in? If a full size spare could fit, I'd rather do that since it would take up the same space. I could make my own foam or some other padding to make it stay in place. One option would be to cut up the existing foam in mine; however, I'm not completely sure I want to leave the spare in at all times. If I'm local, I'd prefer to trade that for the extra cargo space (at least until I get my hitch and cargo rack installed).

That's what mine looks like. Except I have my wheel rotated around so I can easily get to the valve stem to check/add air.

And I use 78% nitrogen in all my tires. >:D

Check out the accessories catalog thread in this general discussion section. A day or two ago someone posted a link to a video where a guy goes over the Mopar accessories brochure for the Renegade. Towards the end of the video they show two pictures of two different spare tires that you can order through Mopar. One looks like it is a full size spare(not certain that it is though) and that one comes with a jack and wrench stowed in the center of the wheel. And the other spare is some kind of winter spare, or something like that. You will need to hit pause to then be able to see what it says about each spare. I got no clue if you also have to order styrofoam to fill in the rest of the trunk space. I frankly think that you just remove the styrofoam that holds the compressor in place and you then just put the spare there. And then the load floor rests on the spare, means the load floor can not be lowered any more, can't put My Sky panels under there with a spare under there. Don't know if you would then have a place to put the compressor.

Now does anyone know how to download "that particular" brochure? Love to know.

Impelus,

I don't have a picture, but from memory, mine looks like the picture you posted. I think all the models are the same. When I took out my spare, I tried the lower load floor position and it works as advertised. You just can't use the lower position with a full-sized spare in there.

I keep two 30 foot tow straps under my 17" full-sized spare. The jack & tools are in a bag on the right of the spare as Hmmmm showed. There is a mini-Styrofoam holder on the left side for small items (my tow straps wouldn't fit in the holder).
Thanks for the response. I have seen the donut spare kit for $295, but I figured that to be a pretty big ripoff since you should be able to get a full size spare kit for that price. I just realized now that if I ordered the stock full size tire kit like on the trailhawk, it wouldn't work for me since I have the 18" wheels. I'll probably just need to order the tire and wheel myself and seek out a jack kit and possibly some foam or other padding if it moves around too much.

Spare Tire

I told my dealer I wanted a spare tire (with a latitude). I guess I'm just old fashioned like that. So they said they would make it happen and I paid a ton extra and everything, but they can't seem to get one. It sounds like they aren't even in production, so it's not just a case of waiting for a slow boat from Italy.

Is that really true? It's impossible to get a full size spare tire for a jeep? I suppose that's sort of the same as the sun roof and trailer hitch?

As a side note, it's been a good car so far. No complaints, other than the lack of spare tire. I suppose if I drive over a nail and have to deal with the fix-a-flat stuff or wait for a tow truck, then I'll have more to complain about.

The TH I test drove had a full size spare.

Is that a full size spare tire or the full size temp use tire. It has a "do not go over 50 mph sticker on it" which is usually means the temp tire.

On Mopar site, they have the temp tire at over $234, but no full size spare (regular) tire.

Hi, got my spare wheel and tyre yesterday, after three weeks on order, it is just a get you home one , with a 50 mph limit , but if you have a side wall blowout , the repair kit is pretty useless, it cost me ÂŁ295 with a jack and wheel wrench , even with this skinny tyre in the tyre well , you lose the flat floor in the boot area to a certain degree.
