Can you take a picture of where it plugs in? How does downshifting perform? My (still) biggest complaint is that the Renegade doesn't downshift when I decelerate into a roundabout. When I'm exiting the roundabout I don't have the power and it has to downshift when I accelerate out. It's annoying. Same goes for rolling stops.

A video how-to is still on our to-do list! With our new location opening up, we've been a bit slammed and haven't had the time to go and shoot a video.

What I went ahead and did, however, is I took my camera and took some pictures that will hopefully help get a better idea of how to install the GOPedal.


This is the plug we're looking to disconnect. If you follow the accelerator pedal you will find it.

You will push the red clip out, then lift up and it will be unplugged.

I labeled this next image so you can reference the images following.

A being the plug on the pedal assembly. B being the original harness that connects to the pedal assembly (A).

These are the GOPedal plugs. A will connect to A (pedal assembly). B will connect to B (original harness).

Your install should be complete:

I have it on my Rennie. It plugs in just above the accelerator pedal. It's a little fiddly to get it in there. I keep mine in Sport II as well.

How does this go pedal work? i understand the install part, i just don't really understand what it does

 

Since our throttle control is electronic, not with a cable you can modify the voltages the sensor sees.

This is how a similar mod for my old Audi was explained:

Think of the throttle as a kind of a dimmer switch for a light bulb. A dimmer knob on a light bulb requires 3/4 of a turn to get the light at 100%. The GoPedal (and similar devices) works some electrical magic and changes the range needed from about 3/4 of a turn to 1/2, or even 1/4, of a turn to get to 100%. So to get to wide open, you only need to depress the pedal halfway or even a quarter of the way, instead of putting it to the floor.

Another way I have had it explained is that the GoPedal (and similar devices) work by changing the sensitivity much like you change the sensitivity in a computer mouse.

I'm sure there is a better technical way to explain it, but that is the basic idea.

I have the ECM. It is well worth it for me. I got it because I put 300-400 lbs of supplies a day for my restaurant into the Jeep. I wanted more grunt getting on the highway with all that stuff in there. It did the trick. A very noticeable improvement in acceleration, especially in sport plus mode. 3rd and 4th gear are no longer disappointing.

For the price I just purchased their non-BT ECM. I may get the GoPedal in the future but I think I'll get bigger gains with the ECM. I know the GoPedal doesn't improve HP but my theory is the ECM will to a degree assist with that.

 

Rich please give an honest review of the ECM product when you are ready.

 

Thanks for the explanation. However, why could you not just Velcro the holder? I will purchase this product eventually and when I do I will probably set the GOPedal on my favorite setting and tuck it somewhere under the dash.

 

We don't Velcro the holder for a similar reason. Some people do not want the velcro on the gopedal therefore we send it seperately as a solution if someone chooses to use it. We have noticed a lot of people get creative and place the GOPedal hidden so they never use velcro or the holder.

Both the velcro and holder give the GOPedal a clean and subtle look inside the Jeep but the velcro is great for the majority of the people.

In short, no, it doesn't affect your warranty. I have the GoPedal on both of my turbo Fiats, a 2013 500 and a 2016 500X. Both are still under factory warranty and have had no issues with the two dealers they have been to. No issues with the GoPedal after a combined 70,000 miles. Once you drive with it, you will never be able to stand the original factory setting again. It improves the throttle response that much! It is a bit expensive but it's been one of the most useful performance additions and I feel it was worth it.

 

I just got one the other day for my 2.4, installed it yesterday and no matter what mode I put it in (except OFF), my idle speed went up over 3,000 RPM. I called them and they are sending me a return label and shipping out another one. I'll keep you posted.

I just purchased the Pedal commander yesterday It comes wed but I'll be on vacation. Can't wait to try it on the 4th when I'm back, hopefully it does what it says!

 

When you install the GoPedal, do you have to select a mode everytime you start the car up, or, if I set it in Sport mode, does it maintain that as the default the next time I start up the renegade?

Also, for the 2.4 L engine, there is no Max Power ECM upgrade that I can find on the website. How does this product pair with the Autoflash unit?

 

Correct, we do not have a MAXPower for the 2.4L. The MAXPower was designed to work exclusively on turbo vehicles.

The GOPedal does remember the last setting. So if you don't plan on changing it you can treat it like like a fire-and-forget.

The Autoflash and the GOPedal interact with two different modules so they will not overlap or interfere with each other. Where the GOPedal remaps the throttle input the Autoflash remaps the TCU, changing shift points, and by-passing the torque limiter. Long story short, they play together very nicely. In fact, we sell them together in our Stage 1 pack for the 2.4L along with a BMC air filter.

What specifically do you mean when you say:

After the autoflash has flashed the TCU the transmission will no longer be limited by the factory limits. So it will pull harder, hold gears longer, and shift faster.
