all of the vehicles in its class are smaller than what I wanted, but I liked the looks of the Renegade so I checked it. I agree, it's just too small.

This is how I felt about the Renegade. I wasn't looking for a compact vehicle. After seeing it in person it was a little smaller than I expected. I really wanted it to work for me; off-road capable, great design, good gas mileage ( although it should be better ), cool colors. It has a pretty good stereo too.

I think I will test drive it and maybe that will change my mind about the size, but I don't think so.

Has anyone else found the Renegade to be a little too small for their needs? We really liked the Renegade but found it a little too small. I am 6' tall and while their is plenty of room in the driver's seat it doesn't leave much in the rear seats. I wish it was just a little bigger.
I'm just shy of 6'7" I was able to adjust the drivers seat to fit me, and fit in the back seat behind me. Granted, not a road trip kind of fit, but definitely a bit better than a take four big adults out to dinner kind of fit.

Is it a full size truck kind of space? No, but if you are having issues fitting people in the back behind a 6' driver, there must be some really odd expectations or some other mitigating issue.
This. I'm 5' 10" 275 with the weight distributed all over- wide and stocky, and I fit just fine in the back seat. As a matter of fact, I found it easier to get in and out of + leg room than the Wrangler Unlimited. To me, that pretty good considering how much smaller the Renegade is vs. Wrangler.

For a compact its huge inside. tons of headroom and plenty of legroom when you take the seat back. As for the rear, adequate.. Its not a TownCar for sure, but my 5'11" tall daughter gets back there and says its just fine.

For my needs it would be long road trips. I have large friends too. I may go back and actually test drive one. I was only able to sit in it and check it out for bout 10 minutes because someone else was about to test drive it.

If you are stocky or horizontally enhanced, I could see the bolstering being too much. As for long trips, I'd make sure to spend some time test sitting one to come to a conclusion about the lumbar support or lack thereof and general shape of the seat. But unless you are very leggy, the 6'3" and under crowd should have room to sit 4 and shift and fidgit a bit. Luggage for 4 plus 4 people... uhh.. no, not a chance.

Extra credit for the phrase "horizontally enhanced".

Horizontally enhanced may be one of the best euphemisms ever. Which leads me to my next point, at a whopping 5'5" (read: "vertically challenged"), I think the Renegade is gigantic! I may start living out of it! :p

Jokes aside, I loved the size and it was everything I expected coming into the test drive: sits up like an SUV yet drives/parks closer to a car. Driving everything from a small sedan (owned) to 4-row vans (work), I could see me being a sub/compact lifer. My test drive had my sales rep (a little over 6'0") sitting in front of a friend (5'10"-11") and they were both very comfortable. Given the fact that I will hardly ever have 3 passengers, and if I did, none of them are that tall, I'll be fine. If I have 2 passengers, the one in the back could always sit behind me seeing as I don't need the leg room!

Great. Thanks alot for making me spill my coffee over the keyboard laughing over that comment. Lol

Not at all. I’m 6’00”, the same height as you, and I found that the Renegade has both plenty of leg room and head room when I sit in the front and rear seats.

I currently own a two seat foreign sports car. On forums for my particular car, its guys like 6’4” and taller considering a purchase of this car that post this same question. Usually someone who’s 6’6” replies to the post and says head and leg room are adequate. Some even ask if rear seats can be installed in the two seater. The answer is no. They’re told to buy a longer four seat car.

If cargo space is lacking for you, then consider a longer vehicle. The Renegade is not for everyone.

Coming from a Honda Element, I think it's too small as well. If I buy the TH, I'm going to miss the rear leg room and removable seats, not to mention the completely flat fold down configuration.
I have an Element. The cargo area in the back of the Renegade isn't nearly as large, but it's an engineering thing. I'll miss the ability to carry bicycles standing up fully assembled, strapped to the sides inside the cargo bay. My wife likes getting in and out of the Renegade back doors much better than the Element, she just steps in instead of having to crawl across the floor. I like getting in and out of the Renegade front seat better than the Cherokee. I don't need to duck my head getting into the Renegade. The Cherokee has A-pillars arch so low I have to duck them when I get in.

I too had hoped the test drive would win me over, but it was kinda the final nail in the coffin. Hopefully it works out for you.

I think anyone who doesn't own an Element won't have the appreciation for the rear leg room in the way it was designed. I will also miss the suicide doors, but overall I think the Renegade is the right fit.

For us one of the reasons we had to put it on the side is cargo size. I could confirm it when I saw it and could sit in it at my dealer showroom...

As for driver position, very similar to my Patriot with stiffer cloth seats. So it is fine for my 6'2 if I get the seats all the way back.

Back seats are OK if passengers are not tall like me...

But allot of couples and single people will find it perfect for their needs. It is just not ideal for a family with more than one kid and some road trips...

Another factor was the $ here in Canada vs size and value etc...

I owned a 2007 Element and I wish I still had that. Leg room, head room, cargo space, rear leg room was immense, decent MPGs, great stereo system. I wished I had kept it. The Renegade reminded me of the Element; it is unique and funky looking. Although the Element was a little scary when it was windy. LOL

Oh boy, the wind! Any idea how the Rene handles in gusts? Does it ride quiet as well? I will not miss road noise!

The wind affects it a little but it's not bad. I never drove an Element. I never expected the Renegade to drive like my Challenger, but it drives well enough for me.

It is relatively quiet on the road too.
